My Max's ambient temperature gauge maxed out this morning at
-23.5C (-10.3F)

I think the temperature was actually around -29C (-20.2F) before factoring in the wind chill. How's that for chilly!

The nissan temp gauge does not gauge for windchill...

In fact no car does, because the sensor is hidden from winds

There was a guy from Grande Praire Alberta who said the maxima temp display goes to --- after -30C. What the heck is -23.5C. Read some posts before blindly stating facts. On the other side it goes to --- at roughly 57 degrees C.

Where is the gauge located?

Err... he's stating the fact that he saw -23.5C on his gauge this morning.. read his post before blindly stating that he needs to read some posts before blindly stating facts

Seriously, do people die a lot over the winter? It's been a low of 6 in NY and I can't remember the last time it was this cold. I went out to shovel the dusting we got the other day and I could not feel my hands after about 10 minutes!

It sounded to me like he was saying that his temperature gauge "maxed out" at -23.5C, which is wrong. I know for a fact that it goes down to -29C, but will not display at or below -30C.

Sheesh!

I'll admit that my initial post was maybe a bit misleading by implying that the temp. gauge on my car had maxed out at -23.5C but I'm a bit surprised and disappointed by the irritated/annoyed responses from some of you. I was simply trying to convey that it was damn cold outside and wanted to share my experience.

The term "chill out" seems appropriate.

There is no gauge in the world the can "feel" wind chill. Wind chill is calculated using the ambient air temperature and the wind speed. Air temp is the same regardless of the speed it travels. Living creatures "feel" wind chill. Thermoelectric devices don't.

Your cars ambient temp sensor is right behind your front grill. Pretty much directly in the path of "wind"!

-26 is sick. I could never live in such conditions. Does that low of a temp hurt a car?

Well, I'm not a meterologist but in 8th or 9th grade we were calculating it by taking a thermometer, wrapping it with a wet cloth, then spinning it on a string. We didn't get know what the wind speed was, but the Earth Science teacher told us how to calculate the wind chill.

Funny, there was more useful info in elementary school than college!

That is soooo true! I learn the biggest BS that I would never use in "real life " in college but in Elementary and Middle school I learned stuff that I still use. The next time I pull up to get gas and a person asks me the formula of a trapizoid then I will start caring about math.
