Finally! Wind noise gone!

I never really noticed how loud my cabin was until I saw the wind noise TSB. That was about 6 months ago. Now actually taking the time to do something about it, it's gone! The cabin is much more quiet.

It was a simple fix too, took about 20 minutes total. I used some 3M high strength mounting tape. All I did was pull the rear window seal out as far as I could. Then I ran the mounting tape along the door frame where the seal attached. I put the window seal back and viola! Wind noise drastically reduced.

Now the next fix is the Bose speaker rattle,

BTW...anyone who has dynamated their interior, did you notice a large difference in the cabin noise? I am debating on doing this.

sorry that i don't know much about this, but could you give more specific directions on pulling out the window seal? what tools did you use, and is the mounting tape that double sided tape? my left back window has some sort of air leak, but the other windows have general wind noise...do you think it'll work for those windows as well? a lot of questions, i know, thanx!!

I tried the masking tape test last night, it didn't work.

I think I'm going to tape the whole damn thing until I find it.

I'd rather just wear ear plugs or turn the stereo up.

Good deal! I just noticed it a month or so ago. I'm now waiting for warmer days to do something about it. Did you use double-sided foam tape?

I dont know many details about this fix, but I have done somethign similar to my taurus. If your car is out of warranty and you need to do this yourself, home depot sells the foam far cheaper than waht nissan probably does (or in my case that ford gave me a 15" piece for $4 and I paid $3 for 15'from home depot). Just a lil heads up

It's really easy. Just lower your windows and pull out the weather strip from the door's frame. Use the 3M foam tape and install as suggested above. I did all 4-windows months ago and it sure made the car much quieter from the wind noise. Btw, I've send out the money order to you on Tuesday morning.

I did this myself and it did reduce the wind noise dramatically. It was easy, just followed the instructions in the TSB mentioned above. I used 3M double sided foam tape that I bought from Autozone.

So wind noise is something you can take your car to the dealer for and they will fix it under warranty? COOL!

would the wind noise TSB be covered under a extended warranty?

Hmmm. I just called the dealer and he told me that wind noise is covered under warranty up to 12,000 miles. He then asked me what kind of car I have, and I told him 2002 Maxima. He said he knew where the problem was in the rear doors, however there is nothing he can do to fix it. He said the sound comes from wind going off of the weather stripping and that it's the same for the Altima and the Maxima. He said he could try and mess with it, but he would probably make it worse.

Does anybody have a better description of where to install the tape? Should we use thick double sided tape or will thin mounting tape work?

My parents rode in the back seat of my car and both of them complained about the wind noise.

Well I used double-sided mounting tape. I only exposed one side so it would stick to the door frame. The tape is about an eigth of an inch thick and it seemed thick enough for me. When I was putting the weather strip back on the car I had to use a rubber mallet to get to go in all the way (could have banged it with the palm of my hand). From that I knew it was a nice tight fit.

Inetersting...someone did the fronts as well. I think I am going to do that because it seems the front windows are louder than the back now.

It's easy to figure out how to do. Just roll down the rear window all the way and that rubber stripping the window rolls up into you can pull off the door frame. Start pulling it from the back corner of the window and work your way around till you can't pull anymore off. I suggest doing the whole window frame, instead of the one section from the TSB.

Masking Tape Test?

Did anyone successfully diagnose as described in the TSB?

I tried it and more, but it didn't make ANY difference.

I guess I could try the fix anyways, but I don't see how that would make a difference when covering the whole side sill with masking tape didn't.

The fix costs only a few dollars and about 20 min to a half hour of your time. Probably worth it just to try it and see. It's difficult when checking the problem with masking tape because it picks up a lot of wind interference. Try using duct tape. Personally I didn't even check it before I fixed it, just because I was lazy and the fix is really not that difficult nor costly.

Unfortunately, no. I tried. Doesn't work for brake rotors either
I tried the 3M tape, was still irritated by the noise - it stops alot fo the noise, but at 75mph (what I usually drive) you still got just enough to make you crank up the radio or start playing w/ the windows like mad.
Finally I tried Black RTV Silicone (you can get it at any auto parts store). I gooped the heck out of where the TSB instructs you to put the tape. I put some behind the seal that goes against the small quarter window too, just for good measure. It's been 4 weeks, w/ temps ranging from 19 - 69 F, and not a peep! Couldn't be happier
