brake fluid and ignition coils
brake fluid and ignition coils
I have a co-worker with a Passat - bought it about 5 months after I purchased my 2000 GLE (new).
VW provides some type of free 2-yr brake inspection, where they replace the brake fluid. VW service people recommend replacing brake fluid every 2 years because due to brake fluid picking up moisture.
Has anyone ever heard of this? I've never really thought about replacing my brake fluid - especially every 2 years.
He also is super paranoid about ignition coils - apparently this is a problem with a lot of cars. I guess VW has an even higher failure rate of coils than the Maxima.
Apparently automakers have been having such a huge problem they are on backorder everywhere. I think his VW service place said if one goes out, you should just replace them all - he said it is not a question of if, but when will the coils fail.
I have not had this problem and I'm going on 36K miles for my GLE. I've only heard my engine knock maybe once or twice in 3 years. Is this not as big a problem with the Max as with VW?

Have you change your front brake pads? If not, it is a good idea to change and bleed the system of fluid when changing pads and resurfacing rotors. Brake fluid does get water in it from condensation.
I had ignition coil problems on the 2k gle and had them replaced under warranty at 29k miles (3/36 bumper to bumper).
If your car had knocking and pinging problems, it would happen everytime your car was under heavy acceleration, steep hill climbs under high load, and a/c running under moderately brisk acceleration. My car sounded like a drum symbol symphany.
