New Maxima Owner :)

Hey everyone, I just picked up a new silver 2003 SE 6-speed... this thing is sweet! I've got the Titanium package, Meridian, Leather Package (black) and the sunroof, etc. I traded a 2002 SE-R SpecV. That was a good car, but too small. I also have a 2003 Subaru WRX as a weekend toy. I dont have pics of the Max yet, but here are some of the WRX for anyone who cares to see it: http://2000-z.cz28.com/WRX.html
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself.

Hey, welcome!

I have the same exact max. '03 Silver, black leather, Meridian, TE, 6 speed, sun roof, HLSD...

And I kept my previous car, which is a '95 Talon, lotta mods. The max is nice but it can't touch boosting. I actually get more excited the days I drive the talon.

My bro-in-law just got a WRX last week. Silver, plus the momo steering wheel, the recaro look-a-like seats, and the bost gauge which reads MPa???? I think 0.1 MPa=1 bar or some stuff? what were they thinking making it MPa? Anyways, I talked him into a JoeP MBC already, but I'm not comfortable putting one in relying on the stock boost gauge, it looks and reas like it's electronic. The turbo looks similar size to my T25, I think I heard the WRX uses a mitsu 13B?

Good luck with the cars!

Thanks guys! Actually, the stock WRX boost gauge is mechanical and fairly reliable. MPa (bar) is common outside the US. 1 bar is roughly 14.5 PSI.

I had a 97 Maxima 5-speed a few years back, and it was a great car. The new one seems even better!

I almost forgot, I have my first noob question. What does the "PTY" button do on the Bose stereo when I'm playing a CD? It just says something like "Disc title" and "Track title"... are you supposed to program that, or does it somehow read that info from certain CDs or something? (man, I sound like a dummy, ) Anyone?

When playing a CD it would display CD text like disc title and track title(if the CD is encrypted with text)...see page 4-22 of your owners manual for more info

Thanks man. I read that page in the manual, but it didnt make that very clear. I guess the new Mudvayne CD doesn't have the text encrypted... I'm acutally disappointed in the Bose system. The Rockford Fosgate system in the SpecV sounded alot better. Ahh well, the Bose is certainly good enough for now...

Cant disagree with ya' there....the Bose system is pretty flat ...but do a search in the forums and you'll see that a replacement of the stock tweeters really helps the system

I (as well as alot of other .org members) put in Polk EX3500's....nice write up by TIMW....and I am very happy with the results....but I'm sure other tweeters will work good too....there are alot of other audio mods posted in the forum but this one was quick, easy & cheap

Thanks guys! I'll look into those tweeters for sure. Its definitely lacking something. I messed with the radio controls but couldn't get good results... I could see how a better set of tweeters might do the trick.

Welcome!

I have a couple of OT questions regarding your other cars:

1) The WRX - I love that little thing...but when I went to the website and configured it it was about $30,000! Is that what the fully loaded ones are going for? Also, is it good in snow with the 4 wheel drive depite those tires?

2) The Sentra SE-R - I used to have a '92...my first brand new car. How good was the RF system in your compared to a real after market one? What gauge wire did they use for the amps?

Thanks.

Congrats on the purchase!!!!
I'm quite jealous of your rex, my friend has one and we are always making the other drive each others car

let the modding begin

Hey, my WRX stickered for around $26,300. It has the upgraded audio system, boost gauge, factory rear wing (which I've replaced), short-throw shifter and other misc stuff like an arm rest extension and floor mats, etc. It fairly well loaded, I don't think you can spend much more on a WRX unless you start adding a bunch of the factory options like titanium shift *****, etc. Its a sweet car! I've never driven it in the snow though, its literally a weekend toy and sits in the garage 5 or 6 days a week (kind of ironic driving the Maxima in the snow this morning and leaving the AWD WRX in the garage ).

The RF system in the SE-R SpecV was the best factory sound system I have ever heard. The sound quality was excellent and it cranked really loud. Also, bass response was awesome from the trunk mounted subwoofer. As far as the gauge wire they used, I have no clue. The RF system in the Spec makes my Bose in the Maxima sound like complete junk, unfortunately. I was expecting the Bose to be alot better. I probably would be less critical of it had I not had the Spec with the RF.
