LEXUS IS300 Question

Whats the HP on the IS300? Is the engine any better than our Max?

215 bhp. The drive train was taken from the last gen Supra (someone correct me if I am wrong). Very sweet car. Handles awesome especially with the factory Eibach lowering kit.

IS300 Handles and drives great! It's just not big enough for me and my wife. It's tough to turn down a good deal on one (if you get a good deal) because they drive so well! I was seconds away from buying this instead of the Max, but I'm glad I went with the Max in the end.

My buddy has an IS300. He likes the pull of my engine and its completely stock. He added and Injen to his but has noticed some hesitation when he punches it.

The VQ35 is a better engine, but the IS300 is an amazing car to drive.

215hp

the IS engine has it's advantages...it's a straight 6...so it's smooth..real smooth...

but it's not as powerful as our larger displacement VQ's

The IS is easily turbo charged, but the straigh 6 makes for a long hood...the V6 of the VQ allows for a more compact design...but the irony is that the IS300 is compact, and the Maxima is not.

Plus it's a lexus vs a nissan which equates to better quality, finish and service. RWD is nice too...but you'll get your butt kicked by a ton of cars on the road right now...the only major drawback.
If they up the HP I could see myself in one.....ladies like em too.

Tell me about it. Too small, too slow, annoying lexus hesitation at launch...4 months and I swapped for my 2k2 Maxima. Never looked back.

While I was traveling during winter break, I saw an pic of an IS430 in a car magazine. I couldn't read anything else since it was in Chinese.

i heard from a friend who has an IS that Lexus is planning to put the SC430's engine into the IS so that it'll compete against cars like the M3. so far is just a rumor, but since it sounds like someone actually saw an article, then it might become true soon enough.

that is an unconfirmed rumor but very likely. They are going after the M3 and S4 very hard. It has been done in Japan.

IS is very small inside..too Civicish in size. I was not impressed with the interior..I expected much better fot the price. Not enough power either...not a bang for the buck in my estimation. I would go G35..best of both worlds

That would be cool, I'd like to see more cars that can compete with the M3 in power, handling, AND price. It amazes me that they got 333 HP out of 3.2 liter 6 cylinder!!!

Nothing can really touch that car in the price range IMO. I love the way BMWs look but I hate the insides (esp. the amber dashboard...yuk). I have always prefered Japanese cars so I'm waiting until Toyota does the right thing *cough* 2004 SUPRA TURBO *cough*.

450 HP in a compact car...yikes. Can we say land rocket? I bet that car handles like a SOB too. What's it's cost? Or is it still unknown?

I'd be a lot more interested in the IS300 if it didn't look like an overgrown Civic... especially the taillights. It's sad, but riceboys have actually ruined the back end of that car for me... seems like it's quite the go-kart too.

Re: LEXUS IS300 Question

I wonder if my 2K SE Automagic w/ Frankencar can beat one?
Maxima 0 to 60 : 6.7 sec.
IS300 0 to 60 : 7.1 sec.
Anyone know?

HAHAHA! That's like saying the 350z is an overblown Datsun 510.

Just keep in mind, the IS300 may get obliterated by a 2K2 Max at the drag strip but it will obliterate a 2K2 Max on the autocross course, because if its handling characteristics.

Its kinda like comparing the M5 against the E55 AMG, but on a much lower scale. Where the E55 would KILL the M5 at the strip, the M5 is a MUCH more competent sports sedan overall.

Just my $.02

Peace.
