Changing 02 fog light bulbs

OK, this is going to seem stupid, but where is the bolt holding the fog light assembly in place?

From the FSM, it looks like it should be right underneath the housing, with the face of the bolt parallel to the ground.

My problem is eyes that are 46 years old. When I'm under the car, the fog light assembly is just an inch or so away from my nose, and even with my glasses, I can't focus on anything closer than about ten inches away. That bolt could have been right in front of me, and I may not have seen it.

I got the fender protector out of the way just fine ... that's not the issue.

So, where's the Smilie with bi-focals

I don't think the face of the bolt is parallel to the ground. I think after you pull away the fender liner, it is actually behind the light. There was a writeup for this but I forgot who has it. I think if you pull back the fender liner enough, you can probably see where the bolt is - try shine a light or something.

When you reach the point where you need reading glasses or bifocals, you'll learn that getting light on the subject is the first thing you need.

I was going by the writeup on the instructions pages at the top of the 5th gen forum. Looking at PMas pictures, though, it sounds like the housing has changed between the 5th (00-01) and 5.5 gen (02-03) cars.

I'll try PMas' method.

Try this link to Courtesyparts.com:

2002 Foglight Assembly

You'll notice that the bolts were changed for 2002.

I'm definetly one of the few here that understand what you mean. That is that I'm 46 too. I just recently learned that I have to find those stupid reading glasses to work on anything close up.

It's a major PITA.

I still have 20/15 vision for distance (on really good days, I've tested at 20/13, and one spectacular day I was truly able to read the printers information below the bottom line).

When I was younger, though, I could also focus just past the tip of my nose.

Now, I have to have a pair of folding reading glasses in the car, just in case I need to read the map.

I suppose it helps to not see if you're going to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

I just did the bulb change this weekend with my progressive lenses and I have a decade on you, but let's forget that. You can almost do this by the braile system. Just take off the top and bottom nuts and pull the light out from the front.
Drawings above will give you mental picture.
Go for it!

I originally was looking at the write-up and pictures in the FAQ (and the FSM) but there has been a change. The pictures that PMAS has on his page are correct, at least for an 02 bought in June.

Tried a bulb that Circuit City was carrying , but they are almost indistinguishable from the stock halogen fogs, so back they go.

Dave,
Bite the bullet. Get the PIAA Super White or Extreme's.
Isn't that what you got for clearance bulbs. I thought you had done the mod already.

Further down in the installation instuction thread is my How-To on the '02-03. They are definately different than the 00-01's. Actually, they seem to be easier to replace...

That's what I'll do, but I need to find someone that carries them in a local store.

Using the credit card for mods is right out.
