Please Help With My Max 2k
i have a maxima 2000 gxe with 43000 miles.
i just wanted to hear some opinions before i bring it to the dealership during next week.i do have a check engine light on right now.
problems are
1- Engine shuts down after idling about 5-10 mins. when i start the car in the morning, it is fine for engine starts at high RPM in cold idle but after it warms up RPM drops all da way down to Zero and shuts off. it's been happening about 2-3 weeks. OR if i hit the throttle to about 3000-4000 rpm in Park position, that will also disengage my engine. i was thinking, if the pressure is building somewhere but all caps are checked and closed tightly
2- Car smells really bad if i hit anywhere between 4000-5000rpm. really bad odor like rotten egg. it's probably coming off from the catalyc converter.
3- My gas milage has been terrible. 14-15mpg. about 18-19mpg in highways. Engine is running really rich, i could just smell the gasoline by taking the dip stick out.
so what do you think it's going on? anybody had the same experience? i hope all these problems are related so it won't break my wallet.

Sounds like you had the O2 sensors go out. Casing you to run rich and over time messing up the Catalytic convertor. kramerica72, Rba does this sound right?

It could also be that his MAF was bad causing the car to run rich, which burned out the o2 sensor and/or the cat and in time, the engine harnesses as well. LoL.. I'm leaning more towards your theory.
But we wont really know until he gets the CEL diagnosed..
