When I was unistalling my coilovers, I used a scissor jack under the "rail" that runs about a 1 foot in from the sides as per my friend's advice. Well apparently these points are not meant for jacking and the undertray got pushed in a bit due to it. Basically the "rail" got flattened and then some. My question is, beside cosmetic damage, is there anything to worry about with this? What kind of damage could occur during a repair and what is involved in the repair? This isn't exactly a piece that can be replaced so it either needs to get banged out or left alone. I just want to kmow the pros/cons of each. Thanks.

 

Someone here has got to know something about this kind of damage. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't. Its very similiar to the damage in the linked thread (BTW thanks about that, i didn't find anything when i searched), but a little more pronounced, ie. worse and much closer to the end of this "rail". In a normal car, the rail actually bends down a tad at the very end, about six inches forward of this point is where I have damage. Like I said, I just want to know the pros/cons of either getting it fixed or letting it be. Thanks

 

I would say, if it just the rail that is bent and the other metal of the area is fine, leave well enough alone. Just check to see if paint has chipped off of it due to the damage and if so, hit it with some paint to prevent corrosion of the area.

 

If you are worried, take it to a body shop, they can put the car on the frame and pull it out. But its not worth the money, doesn't really do anything down there.

 

Well actually its like the rail got crushed and then pushed up some. This extra push upwards has left a bump in the floor. Since it went beyond just crushing the rail, some of the area around that point is also pushed up. From the inside, just about the entire foor area is uneven. Like I said, its worse than the damage in the pictures of the linked thread. There doesn't seem to be any chipping of the paint there, but then again, I haven't done a thorough inspection of the area yet.

 

Mine also pushed the floor up a bit, it was the backseat in mine. You couldn't really notice it unless I took the floor mat out. I pushed the passenger side seat forward all the way and did some old fashioned stomping on the floor, it seemed to help some.
