Poor 2k1 Max.... What do you think hit it?

I was just going through a junkyard link I found in the general forum, and came upon this 2001 max. Front of the car is in perfect shape. But check out the rear. Maybe hit by a semi or train?

At least they don't sell seats. There must be smell of death. Really " Miles: 13".
Sorry, if sound pessimistic, I had too much to drink this evening.

The prices for the different parts are listed on the page, they want a grand for the tranny.

looks like an AE to me. I think I see the semi-chrome wheels under the grime and an AE shifter **** and headlights.

Good catch! I thought it was an 02, but the headlights aren't HID.

What is very interesting is that with all that damage, the airbag(s)are still intact.

Well, the airbag sensors are in the front, and that looks untouched for the most part.

true.. but at the same time its hard to see if it was hit at high speed or if something crushed it. With no frontal damage, it doesnt look like it was crushed at a stand still, but it may have been stopped at a light or something. if youre stopped and get smacked, I'm not sure theres enough de/acceleration to deploy?

scary to think they didnt come out nonetheless. I think we've all heard the grumbling about some really nasty accidents where the bags didnt blow. :/

It is an AE, and according to the prices page, all the parts only have 13 miles on them....

Yes, it is an AE. If you look closely it has what looks like the perforated leather as well as the AE floor mats. Also, very closely you can see the toggles for heated seats...i.e. Meridian, meaning (if I recall correctly) additional airbags in the car. While I fully agree that this type of accident may not have triggered the steering wheel, you would think at least one of the other airbags would go.

In a rear impact like this the bags don't deploy for a reason. They would do no good and may even do harm. In a frontal impact the bags deploy in a fraction of a second after impact this protects your face and head from hitting the wheel or dash. If they deployed in this crash the body would have been forced into the seat then forward (you are accelerating) into a bag that may already be losing pressure and then hitting the un-cushioned interior of the wheel or dash. This is also assuming that the car wasn't parked on the side of the road when hit...

Might we suggest a search engine to find 'yeards' and foreign auto parts? As from the site mentioned here, you can see that not all 'foreign auto parts' sites are only selling new parts. It will also help narrow down where in CT you are and where you want to go for parts.

Last month, I was towed to a garage. Upon arrival, the tow truck driver pointed out a white 3rd gen maxima. It was fairly damaged (write-off) from the night before. Turns out the grand-mother was driving and went right into a guard rail (I don't know why). Her daughter was in the passenger seat sleeping with the chair way down (to flatten out the seat as much as possible). She had her seatbelt on but when the crash occured, the daughter's body was flung forward and the seat belt snapped her neck and killed her on the spot. The daughter's daughter (grand child) was in the back seat but she was wearing her seatbelt as well and was ok.
Very sad accident. The grand-mother ends up killing her own daughter and her grand child just lost her own mother.
Moral: don't put the seat all the way down unless you're parked.
