Another Dynamat Install (Rear deck ported?)!!!!!

Check out my home page http://maxima.cardomain.com/member_p...=231559&page=3

Another dynamat install completed. Worked wonders and I recommend anyone with subs to do the same. It's not really "dynamat" but a material called FatMat. I got 100 sq feet off ebay for $100. Took me about 47 sq feet to do my trunk, and soon I'm doing my doors with the rest.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...003751042&rd=1

My question is:
Has anyone ported their rear deck? I've seen one max that did it, but they had a custom rear deck built. All I'm doing is using this link http://zachaltman.hypermart.net/Rear-deck.htm to fix my rear deck, then I'm cutting into the rear deck and placing a port piece in the hole to make it look nice. By having my rear deck slid down the seat belts sitting in my back seat. I'm Exposing the bare metal and that huge hole from where the bose sub should be. The hole allows the subs to breathe better, making my bass sound better. I'm planning on putting about a 5" round port hole. Will that be big enough? What would anyone else consider doing?

Highest appreciation

Good job! Do you have the rear deck speaker if not you can cut that hole out and use the speaker grill and that would be a perfect port. That is actually what im going to do, but I just need to find that speaker grill from somewhere.

Does that stuff you put in stink as bad as ppl say it does? I have dynamat and their is no odor at all.

What's up BLaZin 2k MaX
Have you tried going to the dealership asking them about the bose grill? Originally that was what made me think about porting the rear deck. If I get the grill or not, I don't really care because I'm just going to keep the hole open. It will be done in 1 1/2 weeks when I go home from college to work on the rest.

The FatMat does smell, but not bad at all. You notice the smell right when you get into the car, but you eventually get used to it. It smells like asphalt if that helps any. BLaZin 2K MaX you were the one that made me do this mod. Thanx again

Im glad I motivated you to do this mod even though you didnt use dynamat xtrem. Im gonna go check the dealer tomorrow, any clue how much the grill costs?

Another question, I see that you have a ported box, have you always had your box ported or did you change? If so what kind of diffrence did you find? I like your ported box, nice and simple exactly what Im looking for.

I recently went to Home Depot to look for some product called "Peel and Seal" that an org member described... Didn't quite find the exact peel and seal, but another product which sticks on one side and has the aluminum face on the other side, kinda like dynamat... the stuff cost like $15.oo but sorry didn't get the square feet, but most likely 3 rolls for the trunk... i didn't buy it, but anyone withsome suggesstion please help... thanks...

I used Peel-N-Seal. Its available from Lowes. Think you get 25 square feet for 10 bucks. Same stuff as Dynamat from what I've seen.

Just wait, fatmat comes up after a couple months. It feels like glue at the start, but pieces will just loosen up and fall off after a while. It's great where it works and where it doesn't, it falls off like Willie Nelson and the wagon....

I have no idea what the grill is going to cost and for the ported box. I've always had a ported box, It allows these subs to move their 2" safely. I used to have a port on the side of another box, but when I got this car, I got a new box, moving the port hole. And for releasedtruth. I don't exactly know where you're going with your post, but this Fatmat stuck very nicely and when I did mess up, it wasn't easy to full back off.

I just got mine yesterday, I think it was a little over $20 from DAVEB.

Did you guys use foam to silence the rear deck rattles? If so, how thick is it and where the heck did you get it?

I need some bad!

Are you going to put that between the rear deck? How good did that stuff you put in your doors work? My doors rattle now.

hahaha
well i'm goin Diamond Audio TDX 12's (a pair; 600W into each from a D5-1200.1) in the trunk, so i felt my trunk rattle would be way beyond what some regular mat would cover.

i guess i'm just being safe. that and i'm impressed with cascades quality material. i used their spray on my doors and i noticed less noise in the cabin just from doing the front doors.

i plan on doing the trunk lid, rear, sides, and with what's left over, do the trunk floor. the rest, i plan on getting cascade VB-2 or VB-5. not as strong as VB-3 and not as expensive, but i feel that the areas mentioned above are the major causes of trunk rattle. everything else just needs a little stiffening, which is where the VB-2 or VB-5 comes in.

No I'm not porting the box into the car, just putting a hole (much smaller) in the rear deck for air to blow out.
