UDP Installation Notes . . .
My mechanic installed my RVM UDP today. He had no difficulty removing the old pulley and installing the new one. But he did have trouble finding a drive belt that wouldn't squeal. He tried several belts including the Gates K060408 and K060410 recommended by RVM. He ended up using a NAPA 25060407. (NAPA belts are OEM'd from Gates. The equivalent Gates Part Number is K060407.) The belt dimensions are 27/32" x 41-3/8" (21mm x 1050mm).
I just picked up my car so I really haven't had time to check out the UDP yet. I'll post my impressions later.

What's important to know is that the Gates K060407 (or NAPA 25060407) is not a normally-stocked item. So it may be helpful to have one around just in case the "correct sized" belt squeals.

First impressions . . .
First impressions with the UDP are favorable. The engine is definitely more eager to rev at lower rpms. I'd say that the UDP provides approximately the same power increase as advancing the timing from 15 degrees BTDC to 17 degrees BTDC. And the combination of advancing the timing and adding a UDP is DEFINITELY NOTICEABLE!

"Supplied for NAPA Distribution Centers by The Gates Rubber Co., Denver, CO 80217."
So I don't think the squealing is an issue of whether you use a Gates belt or a NAPA belt. I think it's an issue of getting the right-sized belt.

I paid more than $20.00 for my NAPA belt. But it was worth it to me to pay a little extra so that I didn't have to go through the headache of finding the right sized belt by myself.

Hrm I am wondering how it is that rvm is selling the UDP for less then half of what other manufacturers are charging and if this is related to the squeeling belt. Has anyone else used this brand of UDP. Its amazing inexpensive and there for attractive but I just can't get over the huge price difference.

sorry, but no dyno = no gains

I mean, come on!I read here to find out useful information. I've found plenty, but then I've also found plenty of ... well, I'd like a definitive answer to these:
-Advance your timing / turn it back because there's no difference
-Install a UDP / it gives the same gains as advanced timing (explain that in relation to above comment)
-Injen adds 10hp / no it doesn't
-frankencar adds 10hp / no it doesn't / yes it does / it does on "some cars"
-K/N drop-in adds 5hp / no it doesn't
I will get a UDP and Injen and will dyno after. Not going to bother with a dyno before and after (there are enough baseline stock dynos for 6-speeds anyway).
I just wish someone (NOT THE MANUFACTURER) would dyno some of this stuff and see what it REALLY does. I'll contribute to the USEFUL side when I get the two performance mods I and am willing to take a chance on.
...until keving does his write-up on the turbo install... but even that's for a 2k, not a 2k2
