Hey everybody,
so the empty gas tank light came on couple days ago..drove only a few miles since then..but i kinda want to make it to Costco and fill up there since gas is up to over $2.00 for premium in my area..basically my question is, how much reserve should there be after the light first comes on? a gallon? 2?

I generally have about 3-4 gallons. I think if you search on this topic you will find that to be average.

 

it's closer to 4 gallons when the light comes on... it's not exact but that's what I've been noticing

I think it's 3-4 gals left when the light comes on. I'm not sure, but I think I even read this in the owner's manual somewhere.

 

My light comes on when I've used juwst over 15 gallons, so 3.5 left when my light comes one

 

I think it's around 2 gallons. I usually get around 25/mpg. I usually drive about another 25 or so and then i fill up. I put in usually 16.5 gives or take .2-.3 gallons. Since the max capacity is 17.5, my assumption is that it's around 2.

 

Try again and read your manual...capacity is 18.5.

Sorry. Didn't really try to slam the dude, just state facts.

However....

 

when the light comes on and I fill it up, I put like 15.5 gallons in, so in my Max's 18.5 gallon tank,that means 3 gallons left. I guess that's the consensus.

 

oh.. i always thought it was 17.5... I guess not..Im a newbie, so be nice to me..hehee...

 

i agree with 3-4 gallons. i think it is closer to 4.

 

I was going to say about 15 litres left from a 70 litre tank but no one here would understand what I'm saying so...



(I've gone to the point of filling up 69.5 litres in the tank. I was so low on fuel, I couldn't rev over 3000 RPMs.) Not enough Sunoco stations in my area

 

about 3-4 for me. usually i drive til about 1.0-1.5 gal left. but i have a hard starting when i get to that level. have to re-ignite the engine a few times.

 

yea... I agree with the 3-4 gallons left. When the light comes on I fill up around the 15.3-15.8 gallon range.

If I really push it, 15.8-16.3 range (hardly ever though, I get paranoid)

 

exactly. when my light goes on the mpg gauge says about 30 miles left when in reality i have at least 60 miles.

 

ya when my DTE gauge blanks out, i usually have about 2 gallons left. but thats no fun, cause it means i have a $35 gas bill comin

 

it usually blinks before it "blanks out". mine light comes on and the DTE blinks at about 4 gallons. then it blanks out when i have been driving with my gas light on for a while. so 2 gallons makes sense.

 

 

mine comes on when im at 30 miles left. and i driven it for 3 more days. and that day i filled the gas up to 17.1 gallons. thought the ad for the 3.5's are 20 gallon tanks. i guess not. after that i never went to 17.1 gallons again. and thats when i drove exactly 351 miles. thats pretty bad. isn't?
