Sub Swap help
Sub Swap help
I want to swap my bose sub. However, I don't want to build a box. I really don't know anything about audio and need your help. Can I just remove a bose sub and drop Image Dynamics ID8 v.3? do I need to get an amp? if yes, what would you recommend? I searched, but all I'm getting is amps and subs with boxes build.
Any help will be appreciated. I really have buzzing coming from bose sub.
Thanks
Nik

do i connect a new amp to the old boss sub wires?
Off the plug there are two wires you need to tap, black and white. They are thinner in gauge than the other ones. Those are the low level signal wires.
Black for +
White for -
Tap those two wires DIRECTLY to a cut end of patch cable. By that I mean take a patch/RCA cable, and cut an end off one side. Then connect the black and white wires to the cut end of the patch cable. That basically allows you to send the low level singnal directly to the amp using the patch cable.

I'm researching this for a friends TL. Diamond makes a simliar sized sub.
Make sure your sub is free air..since you are only running baffle in the rear deck.
I've heard the output from the factory bose might need some adjustment in order to go high level input into an aftermarket amp. Think Crutchfields has adapters...
This might be a better post in the audio forum. Good luck.

Re: Sub Swap help
I switchd mione with an 4000w 8" Kicker Comp VR hooked up to a seperate amp and it sounds great. I highly recommedn it I also recommend some kind of sound insulation in the rear deck becasue it WILL rattle, I used spray foam from Home Depot and that deadened all the rattling.
To be more exact, I've heard that you can drive an infinite baffle 8 from ID or JL with a punch 150 and still have 1/2 gain left. I've just read that, but plan to go that route soon.
heh, that 4000w 8" has a 300lbs magnet and a 4ft cone excrusion.

What do you think about this? I'm gonna go with Juice's setup.
Kicker Comp 03C84sub, Sony XM-D400P5 amp and i'm gonna use PAC adapter kit?
It's gonna be aroung $350 plus shipping.

heh, that amp is pretty cool.. but really overkill for that sub in free air config. That recommended power is for sealed I bet. I would ask Kicker just how much amp is needed.
However, considering that the smallest quality amp will cost you $130-ish, you arent blowing too much money at 180. Better too much than too little. One positive for the amp you've chosen is the variable crossover. Most lower end quality brand amps will be fixed at 80hz. That might be alittle too low for this 8 and leave you will alittle midbass hole.
