i swear...if i have to post yet another thread on this y-pipe..i'll be.....i'll be....damned...

well, the problem is...in 1st gear, under hard acceleration, my y-pipe is hitting the bottom of the car.
it's making this 'cling cling' noise and i can also feel the pipe banging against the bottom of my car.
i'm pretty sure the shop bolted up all the hangers...

anyone else had this kind of problem with their y-pipe?

any info will be appreciated.
thanks in advance guys.

Yup

There are several posts on this, irvine78. You might try doing a search under Y-pipe although that might take forever, or maybe someone who has installed one will help you out.

By the way, how does the Y-pipe feel?

You're welcome... I'm not a guru, only a lurker.

I graduated UCD in 99, so you shouldn't have seen me. Maybe you can stop by SF next time you make a trip up here.

Okay, so does anyone have any solutions? Mine does it too. When my pipe was installed, they put those shields back on the new Y pipe. Is this necessary? Is this part of the problem?

That's because you didn't ask the Maxx-s-ter!!
The banging comes from the bracket found on the top of the y-pipe, where one of the hangers is supposed to go. The reason it bangs is because the shorter and stiffer flex pipe, when the engine moves under hard acceleration, the movement flows down to the y-pipe, causing it to bang against the bottom of the car. what you have to do is grind the top of the bracket, so it clears. I did mine, but not enough, so I still get some banging, but I need to go with a air-grinder and do it correctly.

I have the Cattman Y pipe. Is this a problem at all? If it is just noise and won't affect my car in any negative way, I can live with it. Is this okay?
