VQ35 is too quiet

The 3.5 is quiet and smooth when cruising around town and on the highway. However, when getting on the GO pedal, I'd like more 'character' noise to emanate from the motor. For example, my Ninja is 'normal' sounding when ridden leisurely but, when I get aggressive with the throttle there is a discernible and pleasing snarl coming from the intake. There should be more of a performance sound coming from the VQ35 intake.

And your point? If you want noise, SEARCH will give a plethora of threads on aftermarket intakes and feedback on performance and sound.

His point is that he wanted more noise under acceleration STOCK, without having to add mods.

And again I ask.....so??? Stock is stock. It will sound like what it is. I don't see where mod's were ruled out.

From the original post it is a ***** thread which has an easy set of solutions.

The Injen intake is your best solution for quiet around the town and WOT growl.

He did? Precisely where in his post does LegalNinja make that statement, vito1281?

i think it was more implied than said. maybe when he said the vq35 intake? meaning stock? thats my best guess. either way, aftermarket intake.

I personally like mine quiet. Less noise from the engine = more refine ride. The VQ35DE's engine is rather rough at lower rmp/speed.

I also got the impression that he wanted the Maxima to sound more aggressive when he bought it from Nissan...

I didn't see him ask about aftermarket intakes, or say he wanted the stock intake to be noiser...

so the "where did he post that statement" thing doesn't work for your arguement either...or anyone else that thinks he was talking about aftermarket parts. as he didn't say anything about after market parts.

read it carefully, he is implying that he wanted Nissan to make it growl...like his Kawasaki Ninja did when he got on the gas...

i actually AGREE with you on this one, vq who'd a thunk it?

that was the original poster's point, but jjs is trying to give solution, or else the original post just becomes one of pointless whining.

The 95-99s are louder than the 2000-2001s with frankencar intake...or at least from what i remember when i drove my friends 95. That **** was LOUD! its been a while tho, so i dunno which is louder with an intake...but it did seem like the 95 was louder with the frankencar intake under WOT.

Does installing an intake require that anything be permanently modified? I have a lease, and I'd like to be able to return it in stock condition.

It was strictly an observation. A raspy intake snarl and a throaty exhaust (not boomy like the Durango R/T) seem to fit the 4DSC concept better.

This has nothing to do with the engine. It's just the tuning and sound insulation of the Maxima. This is, afterall, almost a luxury car. The 350Z sounds good, they could have done it in the Max but the marketing folks didn't prescribe that formulation for the Maxima.

Re: VQ35 is too quiet

Get an INJEN CAI, its a $hitload louder. This is especially true at full throttle. Also, if youre on the highway you can hear it purring more clearly with the intake. for like 250bux, its one of the best mods you can get to get more sound (and power) from the VQ.

It's extremely simple and can be returned to stock in less than 30 mins by a novice. Just keep all the parts and take a pic of it in stock form...you can't go wrong.

Add the intake...there's your growl (beginners growl)

Just make sure you don't get the PR CAI, it requires drilling which wouldn't be good for your leased Max.
