How to remove film on AE 5spd shifter

How can the film (with shift pattern) be removed easily from the AE shift ****? I notice my is scuffed/sratched up and had one replaced already under warranty. It is actually more aluminum looking under that film. Any suggestions?

fine sandpaper, you'll get a brushed aluminum look.

My finish is rubbing off on my shifter... Looks horrible.. Did the dealer give you any problems when you asked for a replacement?

mine started peeling off my auto **** because of a ring i wear. i got bored waiting in line for the car wash after the ice storm so i just used my nail to take it off. it highly reflective underneath but i only got half way down before it was my turn. i was thinking about using fine sandpaper but i was worried about small scratches. you can actually see your passengers face by looking into the shifter when the finish is removed.

Very true! Mine started to get 'cloudy' but with a couple shiny 'scratches'. As it turns out, after using something like Softsoap and one of those plastic scrubber sponges, it shines like crazy AND I did not lose the shift pattern printed on it.

If it was scratched how would softsoap help? I don't want to scratch it off or use sand paper. Is there anything else?

Under warranty yes. I am outside the normal warranty now and finding out from Nissan NA if the extended warranty will cover it. If not I will remove that film somehow on my own.

I put quotes around the word, the scratch was only a line of removed 'crud' or whatever that cloudy material is. The underlying metal of the shifter is just fine.

Hey there... How were you able to remove the cloudy 'paint' on the shifter without losing the painted shift pattern?

I just got my shifter replaced under warranty no problems.

I had a SES light also (140) for an O2 sensor. They just replaced it and reset the light. 2 hours later the SES came on again. Seems they didnt follow the TSB, so I had to give them a copy and tell them what to do, sorry a$$ dealers. BTW I have a y pipe and no problems. (but I took my CAI off just in case)

Well everythig is working good now!
