I'm gonna buy a 2001 Maxima SE (probably a 20th anniversary), I was wondering, what's the best advice you guys can give me regarding the break-in service? do i refrain from taking the car on the freeway? what's the top speed i can drive the car? how many miles do i need to do this?
Also, what's the preference on car color? for the 20th anniversary, i'm looking at 3 colors: grey lustre, black, and the new majestic blue. what are your opinions on which is best?

id say just to do as the factory manual says, stay under 3000 rpm and 55mph. i did take my max past 55mph during break in, but i always kept it under 3000 rpm. as for color, i think the majestic blue looks awesome..

breakin...

be reasonable.. dont abuse it. If you do freeway, vary the speed 15 mph. I think 70 is ok.. just dont do it for long periods. You are letting seals and bearing seat in the drivetrain. its as much for the drivetrain as the engine.

The nissan engine actually breaks in thru 6000-9000 miles, remember its a 150-200K mile engine. I kept the RPM down under 3-4000 for the first few hundred miles. Between 500-1000, I started driving more aggressively. However I never went over 5000-5500.

Man, its just impossible to not merge in traffic and its plain dangerous to do 55 on the 70mph highways. Just be nice as you can to it. Bear in mind, the salespeople are brutal on test drives and that doesnt seem to 'make lemons'. Its a preventitive thing, like changing your oil at 3000, instead of 7500.

Just take it easy the first 1000 miles. Don't rev past 4000 rpm, drive at a constant speed for too long, or drag race. As for not driving over 55, that can be potentially dangerous on highways. So, just drive gently during this time, and everything should be fine. As for color, the new blue looks really nice. I wish they had it when I got mine.
