I own a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE with an automatic transmission. I would like to replace the shifter with the new 2001 "20th Anniversary edition" shifter. I looks like all I would need is a Philips screw driver to replace it. Is this true, and how much is the replacement shifter???

Ohhhhhh... you have to do a search and find out what's up with the shifter.

That and a JACK HAMMER, HACK SAW.....

Well, you are going to need alot more then
just a Philips screw driver to replace it.
Sorry to be the one that gave you this bad news.
You best bet is to do what Kev said.

I've been actively working on this. I received my shifter today, but spent yesterday tearing everything apart.

I've been in contact with Dave at South Point Nissan about what has been done so far. He has provided some insight on the new part, the internals, and some other bits and pieces he has learned about.

This afternoon, I took the Dremel tool to it, and a few "choice" words. You'll need more than a screwdriver.

Thus far, my list of tools include:
- Phillips screwdriver (two different sizes)
- Flat blade screwdriver
- Dremel tool (used two different attachments)
- Miniature screwdriver set (like to work on eyeglasses)
- Needle nose plyers
- Flashlight
- Telescopic mirror

I have not gotten it to work it, and I forsee quite a bit more time shaping, sanding, grinding, cursing, etc.

But, hey, that thing looks like a million bucks sittin' here!
