Help me pick my new wheels

I'm buying one of these tires tonight. Help me decide!
Antera 165 17 x 7 w/ 235/45/17 tires
or
Rota Style 6 18 x 7.5 w/ 235/40/18 tires

I like the antera wheel better, but I like 18's better than 17's. I don't know what to vote.

Those are the only two I'm interested in right now. I may decide on more tomorrow, but after researching and going back and forth. These two appear to have what I need in my price range.
I'm glad everyone likes 18" wheels, my only concern is Chicago and the potholes here. I would hate the rough ride, and the bent rims.

Re: Help me pick my new wheels

I'll vote for the Rota... just because it's 18". Try to get some 19" for 5th gen.

Okay, for the people who voted for 19" wheels (not even an option ) Do any of you live in a northern state with snow and potholes? I can't see how 19" wheels are going to be any good for my suspension or the rims themselves in this type of environment.

i'm ordering 19's and i live in NYC. we own you in potholes. AND i'm getting coilovers....it's all about the look man. and the GC/19's look is sick!!!

when it snows, throw the stocks back on. that's what i plan on doing.

Okay, thanks for your help and suggestions.
I think I will compromise and get the Anteras in 18".
All of you are now liable for my rim dents, so I'll e-mail you when I need the money.

I like the Antera's because it's a cleaner / simpler design.

But they're only 7.5" wide ... IMO .. I'd find something at least 8".

I just checked on the Anteras, apparently they have a 20mm offset, and they won't fit because Maximas have a 45mm offset.

Is this true?

I worked for TRD (Toyota Racing Development) as a Purchasing Mgr. for a number of years, so I've got a pretty decent background to give you advice in this area. You are absolutely correct for not going with 19's. In your part of the country, the climate (and the road conditions that it creates) will dictate that you prioritize function over form when it comes to wheel/tire selection. Even in the west coast, where I live, I don't recommend anyone to go beyond 18's just because in the real world, tires must have some height in order absorb imperfections on the roads we drive on. With 19's and rubberband 35 series, not only will the ride comfort be sacrificed, but the handling will suffer greatly. Only places that such wheel/tire combination can be advantageous is on slick race tracks (like in Europe) where they would not be required to absorb any of the imperfections we face on the roads we normally drive. Stick with the 18's, but if the road conditions in your area are really bad, go with the 17's. Otherwise, I think the style of the wheels is up to each individual. I, for one, prefer rims with deep lips. I think they look less FWD and more RWD.

I'd pick the Anteras, but like everyone says, you gotta find them in 18s. 17s with low pros would be nice too.
