Better handling?...

sorry all, the search is down again.

i used to have a 99 contour svt. it handled wonderfully. the max is no where even close. i do understand that the max is a larger car and that it does weight more. but my ? is, what is the best way to get better handling without:

1. voiding the warranty or extended warranty.

2. not costing toooo much.

3. not being too difficult to do.

of course i do understand that these three objections may have to go out the door if i want a stiff car. but i don't want a "ricer". thx for all the help.

sorry one more thing. i've already look at rsb and ftsb or whatever they may be called. but i've heard that they really don't do all that much. infact, may be very minimal. i'm assuming better shocks and struts and so forth, but which one's have most of you guys liked. thx.

RSTB is what I'm assuming you mean. You won't notice any difference with a Rear Strut Bar. RSB is a Rear Sway Bar and it is by far the best price/performance mod you can get. You will notice a difference immediately without voiding your warranty. FSTB Front strut bar will help also, but not nearly as much as the RSB. With an RSB you will immediately notice that your car remains upright when going through corners rather than you being pressed against the glass. This doesn't mean you can take corners at high speeds. You'll have to get shocks and springs for that.

ive got stock springs and struts for now. a rsb will make a huge difference if you want the struts and springs to remain stock. the fstb will make some difference but not much. when you lower the car, the rsb will make less of a difference but i would imagine it still helps. im going to get some tokico blues in the near future but sticking with the stock springs for fear of rubbing with my tires.

Tires rubbing? I have H & R's and have had no problems whatsoever. If you keep the stock springs with the Tokico's, your Tokico's will eventually blow. It's better to replace both at the same time so that you don't have to pay double for the installation.

ive got 235/50/17 and i was warned not to lower with fresh tread beacause even though they are teh same profile as stock that the tire is taller and could possibly rub.

If you want your max to handle much better, FSTB / RSTB / RSB /, real coil over, or good shock with new spring, better tire than the crapenza, I think that should make your max handling way much better, mabe not as good as your contour, but you defenitely have a better engine and car now, FSTB make a real difference when cornering, for the RSB I dont know I'm ordering one right now. I had 3 ford in my life and the only thing I could remember about FORD is:

Found On the Road Dead
or
Fix Or Repair Daily

Cheers

specialist23, nice choice on the '99 year CSVT. I had a black one myself Fun car. It's funny, but now that I need a beater car, I wonder why I traded it in! I'm thinking of building an SR20DET 1991 or 1992 240sx now...so that will be my new beater

But to really stay on topic, there are numerous web sites that are listed in the 5th gen parts list sticky (at the top of the 5th Gen forum) that have what you're looking for. Also, it's a god idea to check the FAQ's b/c someone most likely already did the very things you want to do and had it posted there. Might as well learn from them.

I'm getting the Progress Technology RSB from Cattman. www.cattman.com

I just called them but got the voicemail, so I left them a message saying I wanna order right away. Since I'm out of debt, I'm like a child with the toys so can you say lots of mods for the spring and summer.

Cheers
