Cabin Filter

Where is the cabin air filter located on the '03, and how do you change it?

Thanks

Thanks,

I read the '03 owners manual cover to cover and it says nothing about the cabin filter. But if you say it is behind the glove box, I give it a look.

Thanks,

I remember reading it somewhere, it might even be on the glove box door inside.

I have had mine out 2 times already (2002), you have to take the glove box out. Easy job, takes 15-20 min.

The in cabin filter is washable. You really don't need to change it unless it is really dirty. Just a thought. The lable in the glove box tells you how to wash it.

The instructions linked by sloppymax are for 00 and 01. There are four screws at the corners of the glove box (you need to open glove box) plus the two from the latch. pry the glove box out carefully, and with pliers squeeze the pins hold the YELLOW air bag harness. I had trouble getting the cap off of the filter, so here's the trick...you need to slide the cap UP to free it from the hooks on the sides and top.

Filter slides right out...

I washed mine but it seems to have gotten warped... the fluted folds got mangled...I'll probably get a new one...

FYI wash the filter with a hose after dunking it in soap...let dry on a flat surface STANDING UP...I put mine flat and it got messed up...try it and see....

BE CAREFUL WHEN REPLACING LOWER RIGHT GLOVE BOX SCREW...USE MAGNETIC SCREWDRIVE....I LOST MINE IN THE BODY...fell right through the gap between the panels...

hope this helps...

Got a filter to install on my 2k. Hopefully it will help in the city. I keep getting black crud on the dash from the defrost vents.

It does help to reduce the dust intake from the vent. My car is a lot cleaner now after I installed the filter.

Buying a new filter

Before I washed my filter I went to my parts guy and had him look up the "In Cabin Micro Filter" for my 2k2 and when the part came in it was an upgraded version of what came stock. Just wanted to know if anyone with a 2k3 has looked at their filter to see if they've changed the type of filter in the 2k3. Cause I know for those who have the 2k2 it comes with the cheap looking white filter. Very curious in finding out.

I haven't heard of this...Have you seen the filter itself? What is the difference?

If anything the filter either made of different material, or instead of being fluted (folded) it's probably similar to a central air AC filter.

Let me know...I need a new filter...

I know the one that is in my '02 is a really cheap white filter. The material is like a "felt" fabric. The other type of filter I have seen is similar to a K&N drop filter. I has a plastic structure and a dark colored filter.

yeah its a pretty crappy filter so i clean it once in a while but how well would u expect it to trap dirt going thru the air conditioning system to the filter?

If I dont have the micro filter when I first bought my car, I can buy it off somewhere and install it?

filters

My 02 came with the pleated paper filter that is washable. I did find that my pleated paper filter had dirt/leaves/etc. on it after about a year of use. I opted to buy the carbon microfilter (~$50). The install will work although I found it a bit of a pain. I have not noticed a significant difference but its very hard to tell. Several people in some earlier threads have commented that the carbon filters are harder to flow through and can lead to premature failure of the blower motors.
