Is there any way that the performance of the car could be limited when the valet key is being used in the ignition?

I thought that it was a valet key only because you couldn't get into the trunk with it. i.e. It only turns the car on and off. Was that an incorrect assumption on my part? If this is true, then the ECU doesn't see any difference between it and the regular key. So, there wouldn't be something to limit the performance.
