Ok I've read the owners manual and can't figure out how the display on the rearview mirror shows temperature instead of direction. I don't even know if the rearview does show temp. but whenever I start up my '03 max all the lights on the compass display light up and there's a celsius and farenheit symbol. Is this maybe another option I don't have? Can sombody tell me how to get it to show temperature?

The temp should appear always (mine does) as should the compass display. Perhaps you have a faulty unit.

 

My mirror just displays the direction. The temp is displayed in the trip computer on the gauge cluster. Why would there be two places where the temp is displayed?

So, you can't display the temp on the mirror, just compass.

 

The trip is external temp. The mirror is supposed to show interior temp.

 

So how do you display the interior temp on it? The two buttons on the mirror that I have are "Comp" and "Auto"(I think that's what it's called). "Comp" just shuts off the compass, and "Auto" disables the auto dimming. How would I show the interior temp? I haven't heard of this feature before, and didn't see it in the owner's manual.

 

No, the mirror isn't supposed to show interior temp at all. I personally do not have the mirror in my car, but my mom has a 2001 Suburban fully loaded with everything, and the mirror is identical to the ones you have, it states the compass and the temperature outside. Her A/C unit displays the temperature inside, however. Either the mirror states the temperature outside, or in the summers it is 104 degrees fahrenheit inside the car with the AC on blast.

 

I understand the interior temp. is shown on the trip display on the dash. The only reason I asked if it showed temp. on the compass dispay is like I said earlier. When I start the car all the compass display LED's light up and the celsius and farenheit symbols show. Try it you'll see. Also there's a LED for the number 1 on the far left of the dispay. None of the compass symbols (N,S,E,W,NW,SW,etc.) use that particular LED. So I assume it's for the temp. whenever it reaches +100.

 

I tried pushing all the buttons on my mirror (yes all two), and I don't think it will display anything but the direction. And by the way - when I start my car the direction is the only thing that lights up. Just my $.02

 

Yeah I know it won't, I already tried that too. If you put the key to the ON position all the lights on the dash and mirror light up. On the compass it will light up the whole display and the temp. symbols will show for a second or two then switch to direction. Do you have the titanium package? Maybe it does it cause I have the package, but I doubt it. Oh well, I just would rather have the temp. on the mirror.

 

The mirror in the maxima isnt exclusive to the maxima. A lot of other manuffacturers use the EXACT same part. Some use the compass feature and others use the temp. My moms explorer uses it for the outsidetemp, while mine uses it for the compass. Unless you install a temp sensor it wont show the temp. Just use the display in your dash.

 

NO, there is no interior temp gauge in the maxima, only the temp setting in the climate control unit (if you have automatic climate control). The display in the mirror is for Direction
