It happens to another MAX!

The roads were wet this morning on the way to work. Traffic was pretty heavy and everyone was speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down. We were coming up to an intersection when everyone's brake lights came on. I slow down no problem since i wasn't riding the dudes butt in front of me. Well the guy behind was a little to close. I get stopped, look up in my rear view, and BAM! Dude decided he wanted a close up look at my bumper. I just got back from the Nissan dealer and the estimate is $2,589. I'm sure it will hit $3k before it's all said and done. I just hope his insurance isn't a pain to deal with.

Craig

Sucks! Hope it all goes well.

Take a gander at getting compensated for loss of value because your car is now been in an accident.

Just wondering what kind of car did the guy hit you with? Any damage to his car?

Ford Ranger. A few cuts on the bottom of his bumper where the black hard plastic is. You would have never guessed that he hit someone.

I feel your pain. I had a hit and run happen to me in a parking lot, pretty much demolished my bumper and broke my right tailight. No frame damage, though. Be sure to get loss of value as well. Do it for all of us who can't find the bastards that hit us

It looks like he just hit the bumper, not the trunk. Why so much? Cna't the body shop just buy a new bumper for you?

The trunk is bent in pretty good right under the Maxima. The Nissan emblem is also pushed in about a 1/2 inch. Its kind of strange since the trunk really doesn't look messed up. It is buckled in some from the hit. The locking mechanism in the body it pushed back about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. That's the reason for the 1 1/2 inch gap up top.

Aaaaah!!! But there are other parts under there that will need to be repaired and/or replaced such as the shock absorbers and/or supports for the bumper, bumper cover, Bumper reinforcement....to name a few.

The below pic is my 5th Gen with the bumper cover removed.

Mine was a grand total of $3235 (Paid by the other party's insurance, not including rental car fees)

Aw that's just a scrape, check this out.

Parking brake engaged and in first gear and it still managed to roll 200 yards down our street into a neighbors tree. Has anyone else had in problems with 03 6 speeds popping out of gear or parking brakes failing? Nissan is becoming very hard to deal with. $10,000 in damage and that's just what's visible.

You've gottta love those crumple zones!

For those of us that have side air bags when need to watch for side impacts that can damage the doors...if not the whole thing would need to be replaced.

Front end collisions I really dread, especially since these HIDs are so friggin expensive.

As for rear end collisons, theres nothing back there except a crumple zone!!!...

I'm gonna get a steel cage with wheels aroung my max...getting out would be a problem though...

I still would like to know if anyone has heard of similar problems. This car was parked on a slight incline in first gear with the parking brake up. The doors were locked and it sat in the same position for about 20 minutes before it began to roll.
When we got to the wreck the doors were still locked and the parking brake was still up and working. I know this because when the car hit the tree it bounced back up the hill a few feet and stayed there. When I let the parking brake down to get it in position for the tow truck it rolled back into the tree. However it had popped out of first gear.

I am really confused as to how this happened. My wife thinks the car is jinxed and doesn't want it back and unfortuntely she doesn't realize how much this thing has depreciated in 6 months( especially with the rear end gone) Looks like she'll have to trade down to a KIA or something.

Ohhh....

Jeez that sucks...where were you when this happened?...And it might be silly but, why did you park in first gear?...

If you try to get Nissan to pay for damages or pick up the cost, I think you'll have a hard time. The owner's manual makes reference to parking on inclines, and tell to turn the tires...in/out toward the curb...I forget...

Jeez...sorry man....

That's weird that both things failed at once. Obvioulsy the e-brake wasn't engaged at all since the car worked up so much speed. Thank God no-one was hurt.

Since both measures failed completely, there might be the possibility that someone got into the car and released them both on purpose? vandals?

My '03 hasn't had any issues.
