service engine soon message

Do I have to take my car in to turn off this idiot light or is there some way that I can get this thing reset without paying the dealer to do it?

Disconnect the negative battery terminal overnight and that should do it. If it appears again you may need to have your local dealer clear it out or fix an actual problem.
