Dealer needs to reprogram ECU - post-o2 sensor replacement?

Awhile ago my SES light came off, and a scan tool showed it to be bank1 rear o2 sensor - it was frozen at 99% and set the code...

So I went to the dealer today, and they have ordered in a new one today after scanning the same code, but they tell me they will need to reprogram the ECU once this is done?

I'm just wondering if it's really necessary - won't the ECU just read off the new o2 sensor? I asked the tech working on the car about it, and he told me that they have been told to reprogram the ECU to delay o2 sensor reading from cold start even farther than "stock"... and in the process will have to reenter all ECU values from scratch.

Has anyone had this done like so before?

Also, while they're tinkering with my ECU, any suggestions on what else I can ask them to do? I'm thinking of asking them to tinker with my timing a bit, but adunno what to ask for - I know MiniRX7 has had his done on his VQ35 but I'd imagine my blown VQ30 might be a little different

Thanks!

My 2K1 started throwing codes when I hit 30K miles. Three times in a month.

Dealer reprogrammed my ECU, and haven't had an SES light yet. (That was about three weeks ago.)

So, yeah, there's a new program out there that's supposed to take care of the constant SES light coming on.

Your dealer is correct. The ECM has to be reprogrammed following an O2 sensor replacement in accordance with the instructions specified in the applicable TSB.
