'03 gas milage

I miss the search engine!

My '03 Max is 1 month old and I have about 1600 miles.

Is it normal to get 18 MPG around town? I've been driving really easy (being that my wallet is bleeding dry)

Are there any mods that can improve this MPG?

Is it true that the timing bump (to 17deg)can help this?

Is there any chance of getting 26 MPG on the highway?

Does the Acura TL-s get better mileage?

Re: '03 gas milage

sounds about right, i have an 03 max... i have reset the trip sensor while doing a 40 mile highway strecth and averaging about 75 MPh, i got 27.5 mpg

18 for inner city driving sounds about right.

my .02 cents.

i think acura tl may get very slightly more, maybe 28 on highways, not a huge difference.

Re: '03 gas milage

I'm averaging about 20 mpg in my 2k3 6 speed in the city most of the time, and that is with some opening it up, and when not, I shift ~3k rpm.

Is there really a timing advance for the VQ35? How much difference does it make?

for all city I get about 18-20, but on the highway I get about 26-30 depending on how fast I'm going. My parents are 260 miles away and I just about made it round-trip on one tank (wife started yelling I say I would have made it ) so I got over 30mph on that trip.

as for mods... technically mileage probably *should* get better with an intake but reality is mine is horrible because I love the sound and keep flooring it

best advice is accelerate easily and get on the highway more often.

Really? Is that normal for you? I usually get at least 300 miles per tank.

I've posted this before but since no search... here's a compilation of previous posts...

---
I get about 420-430 miles per tank when I'm doing normal commuting (highway, 20 miles one way). I get about 380 when driving normally around town. I get about 330 if I floor it off the line and "race" (I don't really race, more like accelerate hard).

Using my crude math, I'll guess I floor it about 20 times per tank when I'm feeling randy. Since that loses me 100 miles per tank, you can sort-of assume every time you go WOT from 0-60, you just burned 5 miles worth of gas.

---
I posted in one of those mileage threads that I regularly get 430-ish miles/tank (and it's not empty). I've been running hard this tank ('cause I felt like driving like an idiot ) and only got 330 miles.

Just hard driving off 10 (said 12 before and I was wrong) lights probably 3 times and I lost over 100 miles in a tank... that's going from about 25 mpg to about 18 mpg. So, if you're living over 4000 rpm, don't complain about crappy gas mileage. Even just a few rips can ruin your mileage.

this is over a week (both weekend city and weekday highway)... about 25mpg (also note the car calculated 28mpg)

Wow, guess I am doggin on mine too much! I have noticed the MPG from the 'puter is almost always hi. It can't really be that accurate if it only updates (samples) every 30 seconds. You would think that with everything else electronic in the car they could have a more accurate on board computer!!!!

Do you think turning the TCS off helps the mileage? I've just started doing this when the roads are clear.

That should not have any effect on gas mileage.

It's been established that the trip computer will read between 3 and 4 mpg higher than actual. The only way to get actual figures is to keep a log book. I get around 18-19 in town and 24-26 on the highway in my 2k2 automagic. Turn on the defroster or A/C and it drops a full 4 mpg on the highway and 2-3 mpg in town.
