Can a 2002 key and key fob be programmed to work with a 2000-2001 max?

Just needing to know. I have like 5 pairs of keys for the 2002 and my friend wants one if it can be reprogrammed.

 

I know what you are talking about, but just out of curiousity what exactly does 'key fob' stand for.

 

I don't know if the keys can be used, but I know for sure that the key fob must have the same fcc id for that model year. I recently had to program my key fobs and the first fob I had didn't work because it was the incorrect fcc id. BTW the fcc id is printed on the back of the fob.

No. They are not interchangeable. The key fob for 2000-2001 has a code that reads:FCC ID # NHVWBU43 CANADA:17881021333. The fobs for 2002-2003 Max's read: FCC ID # KBRASTU15 CANADA: 2111104208. Their shape is also diff.

 

No, that is incorrect, they work.

The dealer lost my original key FOBs, which I later found in the trim of the trunk, and before they gave me the car they programmed 2 2k2 key fobs. Work fine for me, I prefer them over the 2k-2k1 ones anyways...

Sweet bud, why don't you look at the question. I know what the thing is and what it does I use it everyday. I didn't get why it was called a fob. Read the question first before you start flaming. Everone else seemed to have got the point.
