EZPass Problems w/02-03 Windshields (w/metal oxide)

Max-ers:

I have an 03 Max. When I went to EZPass to transfer my internal EZPass transmitter to it, the website said that the 2002-2003 windshields had either "metal oxide" or some type of special tint that causes problems with the transmitter. They also made the same claim about the latest Infinity models.

How about it...you 2002-2003 owners....does your internal EZPass work with your windshield? Do you have any special type of tinting or Millenium package that could affect it??

Thanks

Vic Vogel

I used my girlfriend's E-Z Pass this weekend on the garden state parkway and it "failed" twice - it simply read 'GO'...However, 3 out of 5 times it read 'E-Z Pass Paid'

It works fine. I went to NJ with no problem. I have the EZ-Pass all the way on top where the factory tint is.

Not EZ Pass but....

I do have an I-Pass (IL version of EZ Pass) and it works with no problem at all. I have mine up by the blue windshield tint.

When EZ-Pass just says "GO" does it mean that it couldn't read the tag? I've always thought if it says 'EZ-PASS PAID' or 'GO' it's fine....if it can't read the tag the light will either be red or it will display 'call cust. service' or something like that...btw, tolls on the Garden State (exits 130-170) are pretty good and read the tag at more than 20-25 MPH....

i didn't stick mine to my windshield. instead, i just take it out of the glove compartment and throw it behind the clock on the dash. it seems to be a perfect size gap for my ez-pass to fit between the windshield and clock.

only problem is when i'm cornering at higher speeds, the EZ-pass slides either to the left or right. but who cares.

i haven't had any problems with my max and the ezpass

Put it in the center console in front of your CDs - always handy and doesn't move around (but you do lose space for a CD ). I stopped using mine when it was announced they are being read outside of toll roads for "traffic information gathering". Considering the speeds at which I normally drive, that didn't sound like good info. to provide...

Oh, and no problems with reading through the windshield when I do use it.

No problems with mine. I have the EZ Pass from NY also. I use it on the Massachusetts Turnpike all the time with NO problems. I have it mounted just below the factory tint.

Semi-Off topic...

I've never liked EZ-Pass. I've heard reports of people getting speeding tickets by mail because the system clocks your toll-in and toll-out times, then calculates what your speed was.

It like a traffic cam, impossible to dispute.

I think it's illigal for thet state to issue speeding tickets from ez-pass information. I believe there was a court case about it actually. If they did give speeding tickets by tracking your distance/time then I should have gotten a ton of them by now.

I've been using EZ-Pass for 4 months now on the PA Turnpike, AC expressway, and Delaware River bridges with no problems on my new Max. It's mounted at the very top of the windshield. It always gets read. I've got the bills to prove it.
I've been using EZ Pass to the tune of $50/month for 2 years with no speeding tickets. There have been a lot of quick runs between exits.

As far as I know the cars that have problems are mostly GM models... the Impala SS, the old "Dustbuster" plastic-body vans, and some Cadillacs. This is based on the Florida system but I'm sure it's the same thing.

BTW, you can not be issued a speeding ticket based on the times you travel through toll plazas. I would be in jail by now.

OT, but I put my I-Pass unit (IL, as PrinzII mentioned) under the tint. Even though it's white, you can't see it from the outside.

I have a '98' but my fast lane (Mass.) tag is in the same location and works fine. It also is white and cannot be seen from outside the car through the tint strip.
