The altima stock is a tad quicker than the max.

agreed...

look at your ET, and look at mine..

same car...

different driver...

also a different driver in the 14.4 second Altima, and the 14.7 second Maxima as posted above.

they are about the same.

jeez, if you really want to know, go drive them.

The Maxima, being on the higher end of the scale, is heavier due mostly to being more solid in the chasis and more sound deadened. I'm sure the 5 spd Altima tranny is a tad lighter than the 6 spd in the Max.

IMO, the Max is very much worth the weight!

The Altima and Maxima are within several pounds of each other and have the same exact engine with the same power and torque despite the rating differences. The automatics should be exactly the same. They even have the same tranny's. The 5spd Altima has a slight edge as far as 1/4 mile goes though because it can squeeze through the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear whereas the tighter ratio 6spd on the Maxima needs a shift to 4th. The extra shift costs you some time, and that's the difference.

Those appear to be Car & Driver times. My stock auto 2K2 ran 14.7 so the 6sp should be about .5 second quicker.

This cracks me up.

All I have is an intake, and I have rolled away from many 5 spd Altimas. Auto vs. auto is the same, they both are weak. But I would take my 6spd over any altima-5. My dealer gives me an altima when I go in for service, and I dont like it at all.

As for it being the same power numbers, I dissagree. Look at my numbers, 224HP/Tq. With just an intake, yes my car is prolly some kind of factory freak, but I assure you it is not 240HP stock.....

true i think its more like 145-150. somewhere in between like 147 or 148 maybe. still i think that it will be the same. it just depends on the driver of the cars

you cant use magazine times as "proof". my car is stock and ive run 14.5s (which can definitly be improved very easily with a better launch) i had 2.3x 60's.

and the maxima and the altima are very very similar in weight.

personally, i would say that the two cars are so close in performance that there is no way to say which one is quicker. the altima could win one day and the maxima could win the next.

Carpoint is not accurate on a lot of their spec data.

Here's my source: www.nissannews.com

2002 Altima 3.5SE 5MT: 3225 lb
2002 Maxima 3.5SE 6MT: 3224 lb

The Maxima is officially one pound lighter.

And despite Nissan's claims of extra horsepower in the Maxima, it's funny how this has never shown up on any sort of dyno nor conclusively at the track and hence the reason for THIS thread.

The Altima has wider gears and needs one less shift to get through the 1/4 mile whereas the Maxima needs one more. Advantage Altima for 1/4 mile, but yes, overall shorter/closer gears are better when you're street racing since you don't know what speed you'll start at and don't know what speed you'll end at.

Shows two individual drivers with two individual cars racing illegally on the streets and proves very little about the cars themselves and only really shows that you were probably a better driver than he was.

Can't disagree with that.

If I were you I would get an Altima. Suspension is much better on it and it doesn't look 4x4 stock. Of course you can lower the Max and fix that, but with Altima you already getting good suspension stock.

As far as power goes, I am not sure which one has what but I raced Altima 3.5 SE and put about 4 or so cars on him by 80mph. But he might have been Auto.
Also, when I test drove Altima, it had much more torque steer which I didn't like.

All I got to say is that their are to many threads on this already were beating a dead horse trying to revive him. Plus auto to auto the Max is a tad quicker.
