'03 Demo or '03 on the lot, suggestions?

The other day I was at the dealer to see if they had an '04 Max in thier showroom, there was one outside alreasdy w/ a sold sign. However they did have a Demo '03 Majestic Blue GLE, loaded, spoiler included, Frost Leather w/ 5K on the odometer reduced from $30K originally to $25K. I sat in it to familiarize myself w/ it, very comfy, however the demo had a combo odor of new-car smell and cigarettes to it (no offense to those who smoke), + knowing for a fact that it's a demo it's very likely that it was ragged on in it's first 5K miles. Outside on the lot, I did see 2 more '03s, a GLE in the lighter sliver w/ Frost Leather, and an SE loaded in Sterling Mist, but w/ Black leather. The GLE sitting outside had a sunroof and spoiler, but no heated seats. The SE nect to it had the heated seats, the GLE outside stickered for $27K so I assumed the SE next to it would go for the same, but chances are these two outside have far fewer miles than the demo in the showroom. ? is, if you guys were in the same situation would you get the demo for $25K w/ 5K on the odometer or would you go for the SE or GLE sitting outisde on the lot for $27K but w/ very few miles on both?

That is funny, you are doing exactly what I did. I drove a brand new 03 SE Sterling Mist and bought a Demo Majestic Blue GLE. I went with the GLE cause I had the SE and the ride was too hard for me. Keep this in mind, the Majestic Blue is rare, the Silver everyone has. Just my opinion. Chris

You can have the dealer clean the demo up and rid of the bad smell...It won't matter much if a) you are not going to keep the car for the rest of your life, b) buying optional warranty to 100K miles. But I would seek more than $2 grand incentive to buy a demo...try to talk them down more, even get the free oil changes/car washes, etc.

Why is the demo a bad idea? Its not a rental car, it's probably a sales managers car, like mine was. Generally rental cars have 15-20k miles on them.

I would buy the new car just for the piece of mind that I know how I broke it in.

I wouldn't go with the demo for two reasons. One, the demo has had people like us drive it, and I sure tested Maxima performance with the demo I drove. And two, the cigarette smell will take a long time (never?) to go away. BTW, $25k would be WAY too much for the demo - maybe $22k - 2k3s are being heavily discounted now that the 2k4s are out.

So if you go with the new GLE or SE, you should try to get one for $24k-ish (good chance you can get it for less).

Good luck

Agreed. As for discounts around here I believe they are going as much as $6K off.

I agree go for new...I bought my 2K1 the day they were unloading 2K2's...walked out the door with a loaded SE for 22.5 with tax, tags and title. Maybe wait a little bit longer till they have a couple of 04's on the lot and negotiate the hell out of them for the 03...should be able to get down to 22-23K with everything.

BTW this took 4hours of "negotiating" and in the end the Mgr gave me 1 yr of oil changes free for the trouble.

I'd go for new too....but either way you go, those prices can DEFINITELY be negotiated down further....04's are here, so dealers are stuck with 03's...they need to work deals or else face massive depreciation.

A car sitting on a lot only makes them lose money each day it sits there. Make your best deal now!!!

The '04's are out. You can cut the dealers throats on the '03's still on the lot now. Buy it at invoice or less and go for special financing rates/cashback where they apply. Also, use kbb.com to find out the actual invoice prices for the '03 Maximas.

I bought a demo

My 2kGXE was a demo with Auto+Comfort/Convenience, 16" wheels with 4.7k miles on it. I got it for 20k with 2.9 APR 5yrs. I wanted a new SE or GXE, but couldn't afford more.

So far I have 29k miles on it and the engine's like new, but the squeaks and rattles are becoming annoying.
