I'm surprised more people don't do this.

Re: Re: Speaking of Ghetto Air Box
I used a rotozip to cut the front lip off. If you don't have a rotozip, a hacksaw would work ok.

Check out this thread where 2k2_6spd gives more details on his GAB.
I still don't understand where the ooglie scoop is in this setup. Can you provide more info on that 2k2_6spd?

Here's another intake setup I'm considering. Check out Larry's post on page two. He uses a giant 9 inch K&N air filter at the end of the accordion piece, removes the baffle and use a crankcase filter.

Do you still have the ooglie intake feeding more air in?

Wouldn't that be the best way to do an ooglie cai. Can't you just remove the elbow from the bottom of the scoop that goes into the resonator, and then run a flexible hose to the from of the car?

After looking under the hood, I think most of the write-ups i've seen overcomplicate this mod. I think you could probably remove that elbow without taking anything apart. I also think that once you get the hose attached to the coupler, this is a ten minute swap from regular intake to ooglie cai.
Looks like a piece of cake. Might have to try it. I think the trickiest part is deciding where to attach the hose.

It would also appear that this intake would be superior to an aftermarket CAI in a few ways as well. The only thing I can think of that this intake is deffiecient in, compared to PR and Injen, is the looks. I would think this intake would eliminate the low end loss of power that some aftermarket cai users complain about, and also the loss of top end that some aftermarket wai users complain about.

No, not really. Just pull out the insert, cut of the front lip and put it back in.
There is more to doing this in conjuction with an ooglie cai, but just the GAB is pretty much cutting off the front lip.

Ah, I smell what you're cookin'. Not sure how necessary removing the baffle is, but it couldn't hurt.
