K&N OEM Airbox Filter instead of CAI or WAI?
K&N OEM Airbox Filter instead of CAI or WAI?
I was talking to this guy who knows a lot about cars and he said that his friends who have Nissans always just slap in a stock K&N filter instead of an intake..
He says this is the best way because the stock airbox does have a cold air inlet and just adding the K&N alone will help air flow into the engine much better (he said it frees it up by like 50%)..
I have to believe what he says because he didn't work for a shop so he wasn't trying to sell me anything, and he has had all sorts of modified cars in the past, including a GSX-R bike, another bike, and an S2000 currently..
What do you guys think?
I'm game to try it, since it's only like $25 for the filter, which is a lot cheaper and more OEM than a CAI, which is probably a little louder than I really want to get (I had one on my Civic Si and it became annoying as I became more in touch with what modifying cars is really about)..
I know there was a dyno comparison on here, but I don't think the guy did a stock airbox w/K&N filter... or did he?
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: K&N OEM Airbox Filter instead of CAI or WAI?
the k&n drop in filter will flow more air than the OEM filter. however you will not notice any power gain with just the drop in. you can try the ghetto air box mod, im not sure what the gains are but people say the butt dyno says it does gain. you would maybe see 1-2 hp with just the drop in and its hard to feel something that small but, if you dont want to do the GAB then the big factor would be just having a filter that is reusable for the life of the car.
