was this a good deal?

Hello guys, I am new to the org, but have been "lurking" for years now. I just purchased a leftover 02 6spd. leather, meridian pkg, navi, majestic blue with 280 miles on the odometer. I do think it was a demo because of the miles, and it has a couple of scratches and paint chips (hardly noticeble) that are going to be fixed as part of the deal.Anyway, I paid 23,300 for it and it has a M.S.R.P OG 32,200
The first thing I noticed was that the hood moves to much at highway speeds, like it is loose so I think I will take back for fixing. Do you guys think I got a good deal?

price sounds good for options, but couple things:

a) you got an 02, before you take delivery make sure they replace the MAF with the 03 one

b) with paint chips and hood loose, I'd say the car was definitely hit or involved in some sort of accident and the dealer made repairs but were lax in their quality of workmanship...bring a body shop guy to the dealership and let him examine the paint

Most all 5th gens have paint quality issues.

There's a TSB about the hood vibrating at highway speeds have your dealer fix it.

I doubt your car was hit....

also, you already bought it, right? Why ask if it was a good deal now? Enjoy it. You could afford it (I assume) and got what you wanted. Someone got a better deal than you and someone else got screwed. Don't look back, in the long run you'll be much happier.

And I have an '02 and it's going in for the hood fix (again) this week. If that's the only symptom, your car was definitely NOT in an accident.

Get the VIN and run a check on it.

Thanks, I only asked because I made the sales manager sign a paper saying I could take it back in 48Hrs. for ANY reason. I did this so I could take my time checking the car out. I also am aware of the hood T.S.B so I'm not to worried about that and also don't think it was involved in a accident, but,is there a T.S.B for the M.A.F? or a recall?. Thanks guys, any info is greatly appreciated.

280 miles isn't that bad at all. Demos usually have like 5000 miles on them. It may have been test driven a few times, but I wouldn't worry.

Sounds like you got a sweet ride - all the goodies too. 6-speed and Majestic blue - NICE.

Navigation would be cool, but I think I know every possible route from my office to home (10 miles total) so it'd be useless to me.

ENJOY!!! Like 2k2wannabe said - you already have it so don't worry about what you paid. If you're happy w/ the deal that's all that matters!

I thought that 48 hour thing was a law...

Anyway, he probably means the hesitation TSB
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=198305

try to get them to do it now, and also see about any other TSBs (control arm) that might apply.

Carfax or a VIN check won't reveal damage repairs that weren't severe enough to give the car a salvage or dismantle title.

BTW. CARFAX sucks. They don't have a "stolen recovery" title so even if the researched car was only stolen and not salvaged(wrecked bad), they will still just slap "salvaged" on the report. Not good business practice. I got a the REAL information by submitting a request though the DOT in my own state.

Thanks, MadMax, I feel the same way about the navigation system, I don't think it will get much use and to be honest with you I don't think I like it, but it was allready there

You are probably right about the 48 hrs. Did they replace the M.A.F
in your car? If they allready know they are defective from factory do they replace them before they sell the cars?

jjs is right... no. They only replace it if you have a problem and then only if you are "squeekier than the next wheel" if you know what I mean.

Mine was not replaced, but I put an Injen intake on and the hesitation completely went away, so call me silly but I'm leaving it like that.

AFAIK, in CA atleast there is no such "cooling off" period. There is no law that allows you to bring a vehicle back after purchase.

Maybe if you get a legal document from the dealership ( like the O.P did ), it might be OK.

Just to clarify

BTW, the price sounds nice for only about 250 miles.
Enjoy your new ride

Well, IMHO, if you have 48 hours then take the car back and force a better deal. a) it's a 2-year-old car, and the deal you got was decent, not great, b) it has some damage, so that's a little scary, and c) the 2k2s have had some issues with annoying items, which you may or may not be buying into.

So take it back and let them chew on it for a while, and my guess is you'll get another grand or two out of it.

I might try that, thanks for the input. The damage is not really bad
very light scratches on the paint, and they are going to fix that for
me. I just told them tha been a new car I expected it to be flawless, but I got 9 grand off the sticker price. So I dont know if they will let it go for less.

Thanks,max2K1, I'm sure I will enjoy it, I wanted a 6spd. for years.
I currently drive a 97 auto and it is not bad at all.
