Brother in law buys SpecV, thinks he can take me...
He just bought it tonight and picks it up next week. He claims he'll be able to at least run even with me if not even take me in the 1/4. What's the deal, does he have a chance? SpecV is a very nice car by the way, love the way it handles--I'd consider it for a 2nd car.

lets see... stock 2k2 6spd dynos 200-210 whp. I've seen modded specV's dyno 130-150 whp... pretty sorry (nissan overrated hp once again). Both of you got hlsd, you got a crap load more torque... bahh....
you'll kill him. Put some money on it so you can buy yourself a steak dinner afterwards.

I test drove a SpecV. I was dissapointed in the QR25. Stock for stock a VQ35 will slaughter a QR25.
Your brother in law has to be yanking your chain. The Spec V cant even run with the top cars in its class (the RSX-S, Celica GT-S and Jetta GLX/Golf GTI come to mind), let alone the likes of 2K2+ Maximas.
Don't get me wrong, I like the SE-R Spec V and I'm considering purchasing one as a beater. However, the 2K2 Maxima (auto or 6speed) outerperforms it in just about EVERY category with the exception of fuel economy and insurance cost.
Peace.

Why beat the crap out of a brand new car - for a sure losing cause ???

I would agree wholeheartedly with the exception of insurance cost. I am of the opinion that the Spec V would cost more to insure because of repair costs and if the car gets hit, more of it would get damaged than the maxima which in turn would yield a more costly repair.

Lie down low

Dunno man - maybe ur agent is cool
whatever !
There are SO MANY factors that go into insurance costs: age, gender, marital status, domicile, insured's insurance history, etc,...
In general, the Spec V wont cost more to insure than a 2K2 Maxima. But, that's a topic for a different thread.

By the way, what did he drive before he got the Spec V? There is always a reason people think a 15 second car is fast.

Thanks to those that replied, I guess I don't have to fear him unless he gets I/E upgrades.
Cheers.
