Really had my heart set on a '01 MAX GLE and came sooooo close to getting one. But because my wife and I need to save money for a townhome, I'm thinking of going with a '01 Altima GXE. Sure it's a 4-cyl, but 155hp isn't bad. And looks aren't that bad either.

What I'm worried about is the Altima's reliability. Anyone here ever own one or could enlighten me about whether it's a dependable car?

Still depressed about not being able to get the Max though.

Wait 1 year and get the Altima with 240 Horse or the Sentra SE-R

I cant believe the Altima's are going to have 18 more horse than the current maxima's argh

I saw some pics of the 2002 Altima and it looks awesome. But I read that the chasis will be as big as that of the current Maxima. That means that the price will probably also be high, much higher than the '01 Altima. If the price on the '02 Altimas doesn't go way up, which I doubt, then I could wait.
How about the Sentra SE-R - will that become bigger too. Maybe the size of the current Altima?

Don't buy an Altima now. Wait until this autumn!

Yes, I agree with the guys here...

Whatever you do, don't buy the current Altima now... buying it would be a very big mistake you will regret for years to come. Make do with what you have for now.

Wait until September, when the new 2002 Altima comes out. With or without the optional 240bhp V6 (I believe the standard I4 will be around 170bhp), you won't regret that you waited.

And... don't get the new Sentra SE-R. That is a car for kids.

Cheers!

dont do it....

i drove around in my cousins altima all summer, then i bought my max, there is a HUGE difference between them, especially if you had your heart set on a max, you wouldn't like the altima that much. i say you try to find a nice used 2k max, or go to the dealer and see if they have any 2k max's left (highly doubt it though).

I used to work for Enterprise Rent A Car. I must have driven a hundred Altimas. I agree..the current Altima will be obsolete in less than a year and it's value will plumet. Why not cough up another 3-4K and get a bare bones Max GXE that you can upgrade later.

its kinda one of those things, "buy it now, hate yourself later" deals. like buying a new computer that you kow will be obsolete in 3 months. trust me, you want to wait for the new Altima. it will be priced in the low 20K range, just as they are priced now. Wait, and ye shall be rewarded.
