as long as your idling fine with no vibration your fine.

i'll have to check that rpm on the freeway. Remember, the rims+tire combo you have will alter the rpms at highway speeds

btw.. ur updated onto the site in the sig

Mine is around 600 at idle. 55-60 mine is around 2600. Mine is manual by the way. 1800 at 55-60 sounds a little strange..

even if you are manual, that idle is low. if youre auto, then youve got a problem.

Well if you put on bigger tires + wheels, your car will go faster than what it normally would and you engine would work less. If you understant what I mean. I'm just making this up but is you going like 60mph on the high way and the rpm is around 2600rpm, (that's with the stock wheels + tires). Now you got on new tires + wheels and they are bigger, (the bigger the tire the faster you go) you'll have to give less gas to go faster. Am I right???

Bigger tires and rims may effect the tachometer, but not by that much. You should have tried to meet factory specifications to not throw off your guages as much as possible. I think the engine works the same... and not any more or less...

The relationship between Tachometer and speedometer is fixed by the gearing, tire size has no effect on that relationship. Tire height does alter the relationship between indicated (speedometer) speed and actual speed.

How is that possible, me pushing on the gas less will make me go faster? Damn, I'v been driving wrong this whole time I do understand what your saying about the bigger the tires are the faster you go but you still need to give it gas.

Larrio, the drive is still smooth(knock on wood) and it seems to be ideling correctly. Also, thanks for adding me on to the web page. Thats cool of you to setup a representation of the So. Cal Maxs.

SloopyMax, I am an auto, now where in lies my problem?

Thanks for your help guys.

id take it do the dealer since they most likely the only one around you with a consult2 and have them adjust the idle. the spec for the idling is under the hood on a small white sticker. when i had my timing advanced, my idle was 700-715. i would imagine it would feel like the enging was bogging if the idle was lower. i actually uped by idle and it feel more reactive off the line.

That sounds about right...I had my idle RPM bumped up 2 weeks into buying, rough idle...the tadch needle now rests two dashes above the zero mark (car off)... this is ~500-700 if i'm not mistaken...

I've heard the ECU adjusts the RPMs based on driving style...don't know if this helps...

The speedometer runs off the transmission, basically counts revolutions (before the tires), the tach runs from the ignition, no tires inbetween. The only way tires could have an effect on the relationship is if the speedometer looked at the road surface for speed measurement, or if the speedo was a GPS device (it's not). This is all why the tire size selection calculators you see speak in terms of spedometer error. The speedometer is calibrated for one diameter of tire, a different diameter creates a measurement error.
