Beef Up My Bose

Hello All,

I just joined this forum and I have to say I can't stop reading. It is nice to see such great questions and everyone lending a helping hand.

On with my question. I just bought a 2003 GLE with the 7 speaker Bose, I crank this thingt to the Max, which on the dial is 31, and although it sounds greatI still feel like I want more (louder please!!). Does anyone know how I can get more out of this system, or can I easily add an amp on. Anyone have any reasonably priced solutions?

Thanks!!

There is a forum dedicated to audio where you should probably post in the future. Having said that, you do have some options. You can keep your stock HU and get a converter, I forgot the name of the one you need, and then wire up an aftermarket amplifier. Just be careful because the OEM Bose impedances are very low. Around 1.5 ohms for the woofers and 1 ohm for the tweeters. If you are going to upgrade your amp, you may also want to upgrade your speakers.

Hey Jay it sounds good now, but wait a week....its gonna cut out on you like it did to the rest of us...My car is 3 weeks old and the HU has cut the left side out almost totally and the unit takes way too much juice to get sound going and then it stops at "31" as you stated.

I just ordered a Kenwood Excelon unit and will install it this Sat weather permitting...I will post pix and comments after all is said and done.

Check out my home page for pictures. I just added a amp and sub. Sounds pretty good IMO.

Yeah, my 2k has never had a single problem with the BOSE system.
By the way, I reached 40k miles the other day.

Bose sucks. I would trash it and put in some decent audio gear. Thankfully, I don't have it in my Max-waste of money in my opinion.

I'm planning on upgrading my system in a couple months hopefully but in the meantime the stock unit works fine.

Dissapointed

I guess I was just expecting too much. You here the name "Bose" and think wow, this stereo must be awesome and it's not bad but I should have just got the cheap stereo and swapped it for something better.

Bose shouldn't have put their name on it then. It's not good for their reputation.

I'd be happy if it was a little bit louder. Other than that I really have no complaints. I think the cassette player is useless in the day and age.

heh, I haven't used my tape player since I bought the car over a year ago. I was actually thinking of taping some techno/dance remixes off the radio on the weekends. (yeah i like that stuff, ok?) Just gotta buy some blank tapes.

Having a tape player is good for portable mp3 players...

My HU cut-out probs were possibly caused by a poorly installed 'pro-fit' motorola cellphone cradle...not sure since the dealer replaced the HU anyway, but that's what he thought...
