Question about my poor wrecked Maxima

Last week my wife got into an accident in the Max. Traveling from Baltimore in that freak storm we got. Basically the car went into a spin at about 65 MPH. She ended up hitting a concrete barrier, bouncing off it and finished spinning back into the freeway. Luckily she was the only car involved and her and my 2 kids were unharmed. The visual estimate of the car is about 8K in damgae to the rear of the car. The front end is okay, or at least looks okay. She tried to move the car off the freeway right after it happened, but the car did not want to move, it did creep however if revved high. The body shop said there is probably transmission damage, they have no idea how extensive though. And finally, sorry for the rambling, I needed to tell some of the details, how possible is it that what ever damage the tranny took went through the crank and possibly ruined any bearings? And, how could this kind of damage even be evaluated? So even if the car gets fixed, tranny and all, and say 30K miles later the motor dies from bearing failure, will it still be covered under the Nissan warranty, I have the extended one to 75K? Can Nissan say that it was involved in a major accident and deny the claim because of it? Thanks for any input guys.

I don't know if the dealer will give you head aches, but probably so if they know about it and you don't get it fixed there.

If possible, see if it can be totatled. It is next to impossible to get a car back to the way it was before an accident like that.

Glad to hear your family is ok....the Max did it's job

Here it goes, just a thought:
I presume, you have auto Max, in that case there's no direct connection to the engine, it's connected through so called "torgue converter" - hydraulic coupler. So, if ATF leaked in significant amount as a result of those hits there could be not enough "hydro" to couple by. I mean it can be as simple as damaged ATF cooler/pipes/bottom transmission cover or in worst case - torgue converter itself, I don't think engine bearings were affected.

my 2c of speculation.

I guess I should have put this in, it is a 5 spd Max. So it does have a direct connection to the crank. I don't, I guess I am being paranoid about my motor.

I'm with the others...get it totalled. I wouldn't want that car fixed, especially if I was still paying on it.

Unfortunately it can't get totaled unless the damage exceeds 80% of it's value. Which according to the Ins Co the value is 18,000 something, which means another 6500 dollars in damage needs to be found. Which may be the case, they still need to rip it apart to see. Too bad the air bags didn't go off, they are spendy to replace, and that would surely put me in the totaled range. I called Nissan and if the engine does die after the repairs are made, it is still covered.
