Notchy MT

Notchy MT
My 2k3 MT is just completing break in.
I've noticed that the MT is rather notchy when cold where "cold" means starting up at around 30 degrees (it has been a bad Spring here in the Northeast).
Once I've driven say 10 miles the engine is warm and the MT shifts much smoother. Assume this is normal, but I'm wondering what starting at zero degrees must be like.
Does this whole issue go away as the car gets some real miles logged in? And would it make a significant improvement to replace the MT oil with a synthetic like Red Line? If so, when.
Thanks for your thoughts.
