New car! New wheels! But this wheel gap is seriously embarrassing :(

As most of you know, I recently bought a 2K2 6 speed. I just put my new wheels on.

When I let the jack down, by the looks of the wheel gap, I seriously thought I had left a jack stand underneath. No such luck. Anyhow, here are some pics. They are 18x8.5" Ace Zeus with 245/40/18 Nitto NT-555s. They weigh 55 lbs with tires.

Overall I must say that I am extremely pleased with my purchase. The power is unreal.

Minor differences between the 2K and 2K2 that I have noticed:
1. Front doors are heavier. They seem to take a little more pressure to close than before.
2. The "active headrests" are nice. I don't know what their function is, but they seem much more comfy than the old ones.
3. Redline ability and insane torque...YAY!

I am having my springs installed on Tuesday and my 2 tone leather kit installed on Wednesday, pending their timely delivery.

Anyhow, wheel gap sucks. I am ashamed to leave my house.

Thanks!

Dark cars + Arizona dust + Guy who is extremely obsessive compulsive=

With that said, it had to be either white or silver. This was the only used 6 speed for sale in the entire state (seriously). Plus I got it from an org member.

Not yet..... I listed it in the AutoTrader last night though and I've already had three calls.

Dude....that's bone stock on the suspension. My Eibachs arrive here on Monday I hope.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I love the wheels! I still can't get over how wide they are.

Old owner debadged it. I swapped tails. Nice observation!

I actually ordered the black 2K SE badging from DaveB, so the butt of this car will look identical to my old one once they come in. I'm not really into the debadged thang.

Nice car - looks just like my 2k SE, at least on the outside.

Re. the gap: I am very happy with the gap ! Obviously, you have never had to put on snow chains on a car with a small gap. I did, and it wasn't fun. My friend's Camaro, it was nearly impossible. I guess you shouldn't take such a car into the snow country but I do drive my Max when skiing at Tahoe. So, I am very happy with the gap, let's keep it that way ...

Yes adding larger then stock wheels has a tendency to exagerate the wheel gap look. However having said that, your car really doesn't look that bad with the gap is has in those pics. I have seen muuuch worse then that. Maybe the pics don't do it justice though. Sweet choice on wheels though!

Me= newbie

Doh, didn't read the whole thread

no that was a picture of me on stock suspension fueling up for some road racing at willow springs.

I'm on JIC's now, there's one really dark picture of the drop on the last page of my homepage Ah... to be a 4x4 again... :wistful sigh:

It looks a lot worse in person, trust me.

I got the tails off my 2K SE. I just swapped them.

Andy, as a lowered 2k2 I can tell you the thing you will enjoy the most about springs is the lowered gap. Duh. But the SECOND most awesome thing, is that you can GREATLY reduce the 'lift' when you accel. from a stop... Have you noticed it??? W/ my stock springs when I first bought the car I did a few full throttle launches and I literally thought my car was going to LAUNCH into the air. All that torque on the low end + stock springs = Space Shuttle!

...Tell me you've noticed... But the car looks great man, welcome to the 5th gen +1 club...
