I suggest looking into Warranty Gold (www.warrantygold.com) I have 2 Maximas both under extended warranty through them. So far I have had pretty good luck with them. I got 100k bumper to bumper policies for $1,200 each I think. They even waived the $50 deductible on the second policy.

If you decide to get the Nissan extended warranty thru the dealer, it is substantially cheaper if you buy before the 36/36k warranty is out.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
Is it better to get from a dealer or private(like warranty gold)?

Dealer warranty is the best... you will receive no hassle and no waiting. Third party warranties usually require that the dealer first does a diagnostic (usually $80 or so), that they can end up charging you if the warranty company denies the claim.

Once they find what is wrong, the dealer has to contact the warranty company and tell them, and they check if it is covered. If it is covered, then they get an authorization to fix it. After they fix it, they have to get your signature and fax the paperwork in... up to two hours later, the warranty company will fax the dealer with payment information... and then you are able to pick your vehicle up.

Sounds like fun, eh?

Consumers Reports suggests only getting the extended warranty on cars that they rate as less reliable than average for that class.

The Max is at the top of predicted reliablity for family sedans.

Are you people buying these extended warranties getting your money's worth or just buying peace of mind?

True, this however largely depends on the dealership, as well as the warranty company you went with.

Again, it appears that this varies based upon the warranty company you use. Before my Max I had a 97 chevy malibu, I think I have gone through 4-5 alternators, 1 transmission rebuild, and numerous other costly repairs that the extended warranty covered. Even though the car has been noticeably modified I admit they may try to get out of it by having you come up with all up to date your maintenance records but if everything is in order, they are usually pretty good about it. And as far as the payment info, and repair approval goes: I only had one instance where it carried into the next day, but usually everything was done same day.

Again this is only my experiences with extended warranty companies, but so far they have been mostly positive.

Red... I agree... just want to warn those who don't know about the possible 'procedure' that is involved with aftermarket warranty.

I hear you. I think it's the luck of the draw; sometimes you get lucky and get a decent dealership/warranty company, while other times you end up with a nightmare worthy of a horror novel written to the Better Business Bureau.

I got the Security Plus Gold which is a 5 yr/ 75,000 mile warranty from Nissan for about $800 when I bought the car. The selling point for me was if you don't ever use it, they refund your money. Of course, I'm sure if you go in for a $10 sensor that deal is voided.

I have the same setup. And yes, if you use it for a $.30 fuse it will void the reimbursement deal.

I think its more peace of wife...haha. She has trust issues buying used cars.
I got a 14 year old legend with no issues that i bought 4 years ago...(knock on wood).
I have never had issues with having no warranties.

But the wife likes them...truth is we are looking for a car still under warranty...01 with under 36k....so at least then we will have a few months to decide....

THanks again for the help.
Mike

Course you realize that you actually have a 2 year, 75 thou miles warranty. 3 years are your factory warranty. Years start the day the car was first sold.

You have a 2001, technically it's an additional 2 years/64,000 miles warranty whichever comes first (not both).

Factory warranty is 3 years/36K.

Thanks!

yes, you're right about the additional 2 years, but technically it's an additional 39,000 miles warranty coverage whichever comes first (not both).

Thanks!

Unless it relates to the powertrain (engine, trans and in some states the emission parts also) in which case the original warranty is for 5 years/60K miles.

go with www.warrantydirect.com -- you can check them out anywhere, they are one of the best third party warranty companies, and you can get coverage pretty cheap, full bumper to bumper and either 0 or 100 dollar deductible....free quotes, etc....so i would reccommend at least checking them out, i got a 4 year (starting yesterday)/75,000 mile (total reading) bumper to bumper 100 dollar deductible warranty for 1,025 (including $75 discount promotion they are running) -- compared to the $1,900 i got conned into at the dealer for what would have covered less than half of warrantydirect's covers.....good thing i got a refund on that

Beware the refund price will only be a fraction of what you paid.Went through that with my 2000 mazda 626 with a warranty i never used.Do some research online, like motor trend or consumer reports ,and you'll find out the real deal on extended warranties. Also watch out for the deductibles normally in fine prints.

For example if you have the Nissan Security+ extended warranty of 5 years/100K, then technically the additional coverage of JUST 40,000 miles whichever comes first.
