I am a pretty big newb when it comes to car talk that goes deeper than "normal" everyday guy talk, so don't hate.

What is a y-pipe? A b-pipe? Do I need them and a muffler, or can I just get a muffler? Is a y/b-pipe another name for a muffler? Will I get significant performance gains from just a new muffler? What are some average prices for these parts, and do I have to have them all or just a muffler for the sound/noticeable power gain?

It won't do ANYTHING other than raise the amount of noise you hear.

Unless it's REALLY restrictive, which could cause some loss of mileage. Doubt it though.

Do you know if the inside is louvered or perforated?
