Stupid Semi Trucks!

So I'm cruising down I-90 near the IKEA in Schaumburg when a semi truck blows a tire in front of me. The d*%n tire flies up across the top of my Max and literally rips the rear window spoiler right off.

Yikes!! Did the truck pull over or was it oblivious to what had happened? That sucks dude!

How close were you following the truck? I try to back off as much as possible - all the road debris (not including tire treads) they kick up can really do some damage like rocks hitting my windshield.

You from that area? You were in my neck of the woods...

MadMax... I live in the area (Schaumburg/Elk Grove)... I was driving home from where my g/f lives (McHenry County).

I usually don't 'trail' behind any semi... I had to be in the lane to exit onto I-290 when WHAM!

He was starting to pull over... but he probably didn't know what happened to my car (heck, I didn't know what happened until I pulled up and stopped in the Hooters parking lot to say hi to some of the Org guys). And I didn't think to get the info, 'cause I'd assumed that the truck company wouldn't help.

I guess next time (advice for those reading...) I SHOULD have got the trucking information and tried to contact them for reimbursement. I dunno... I just chalk it up to roadside hazard.

where are you at?

I know what you're talking about - people scramble to get over to that right lane to get onto 290/53. It seems to be under construction every other month. I fortunately don't drive on it too often anymore.

I'm in Palatine myself. I was going to stop by the Hooters to check out people's rides but got stuck going to some dinner ****e with my fiance. It was for the Township of Schaumburg because she interns at the teen center. Needless to say it sucked ****.

Hopefully your insurance co. will get you straightened out.

Insurance won't touch it, really. And why claim it anyway? My deduct is $200 and the spoiler was $160 (installed myself).

Next time I'm using my james bond tacking missiles to shoot the tire before it hits the car!

I was on I95 in the left lane when a truck about 1/2 a football field in front of me (in the right lane) started having one of his tires disintegrate in front of my eyes. Debris was being splattered all over my car for over a mile because the driver didn't relaize he was polluting the highway, and the MORON in front of me decided it was better to slow down rather than speed up and pass the tire splattering rig.

Why do they give MORONS licenses? Shouldn't there be a law stating if your IQ is less than 80, you don't get to drive ever???

I've got TWO tire carcass on my kill list. The FIRST one really got me baaad. Took me a claybar, bottle of quick detailer, and an hour to get rid of most of the black smear marks.

The SECOND chunk hit the front bumper/headlight area, stuck to my hood, then slowly creeped up my hood/windshield and over the top of my car.

Go to my homepage below and look at page 2...

Looks are the primary reason... but performance, well... more like 'functionality'... not really, but it can probably be stated it has a function (like a rear deck spoiler would).

I didn't realize that's what he was referring too.

IMO, that thing is better off being left out on the freeway.
