Review: Maximum Tuning VB mod on 2k2

As part of the on going make my car faster project, code named 'Project Donkey', I decided to get the VB mod done. I took an hour or so to take the VB out (there are 4,382 screws and it was kind of annoying). I shipped it off to Jeff @ Maximum Tuning in NY Maximum Tuning. He got it on a Thursday and had it back to me on Tuesday. I got the level 2 street/strip mod. He is nice to deal with and I definitely recommend his shop for anyone interested. Anyways (so I don't get this thread moved to Vendor Experiences) I will move on. I got the VB back and put it back on, along with all the screws and as usual, I have two screws left over. I am pretty sure it is because Jeff had put two screws in the VB that I had taken out before and I am gonna stick with that story (until my VB falls out @ 110 MPH). I flushed the transmission system and put in Amsoil ATF fluid that I got from iwannabmw. Once I got the thing in gear, took it out for a spin and then I took it to Carlisle for the big car show. The 1-2 shift is 200 times better. It hits hard and there is no lag. (even had the wheels chirp once.) 2-3 is definitely better with less lag, but not as noticible. I did not notice any change in anything else. The better shifting could have something to do with the better ATF fluid as well. Overall, I am happy I decided to do this and recommend it to anyone trying to blow up their engine with boost. Thanks.

Damn I thought it was a few hundred more. I may be getting this done sooner than I thought. It doesn't sound like the whole process was that bad. Summer is almost here and I'll be home from college and I could get it done then. Do you have a tranny cooler or anyother mods before getting the VB Mod?

The VB mod was first. The other mods are collecting dust at the moment.

I just got back from shipping mine to Jeff. I hope to get the stage 2 done with by Thursday. Kind of a bummer to ship from Cali to NY overnight, but I gotta do what I gotta do for the mod.

I didn't think taking the VB out was all that bad. It was just 13 bolts.

So what's the target for the project donkey? 300 HP? HAHA

BTW...maybe our VBs are slightly different. I lost count at 20.

One other thing how are the shifts under moderate acceleration around 3500rpm shifts?

They are smooth as silk. The less you hit the gas, the smoother the shift is 1-2.
