Last Goodbyes

I've sold my Max and leaving the org.. I've decided it just isn't the car I want. I'm too concerned w/ sheer performance and modding and my max just doesn't have the potential I need. I did love the car, and for a family sedan, it's the bomb (for under 30K).

No replys needed; I don't expect anyone to get all teary eye'd or tell me how much I'll be missed (I was a fairly quiet member), that is not why I'm writing.

I just wanted to say... THANKS... for all the links, advice, hints, install tips, part numbers, TSBs, etc... And everything else that saved me money and time, and helped me make my Maxima a great machine that looked it's part.

I hope I run into many of you again, on the Porsche 911 Turbo forum, one day, after we all get rich.

SPECIAL THANKS TO Y2KEV and SXR7 for tons of personalized advice and guidance.

TAKE CARE ALL!

By the way, I haven't forgotten you, DON COOPER (a.k.a. PUNK-THEIF @ MOBILETEK). Keep an eye out for a special visit and "THANKS".

2K1, with all the bolt-ons, VB mod, TC, etc... Even had 100 shot of nitrous for a while.

I'm going w/ the new Subaru WRX STI. (Not as "stylish" as the Max, but the performance is uncomparable for under 50K.)

Regardless of any flames or other 'why's' that may arise, if this move makes you happier, more power to you!!!

I know what you mean with the WRX, it's probably graced the cover of every import magazine. Don't sleep, you have your work cut out for you.

Do your research man....

EVO is quicker than the base WRX, it is NOT quicker than the new WRX STI. STI is 100lbs lighter and has 30 additional HP and Torque-can't argue w/ math.

New STI has been estimated to have a stock 0-60 at 4.6-4.7, and quarter mile around 13.1. The EVO can't touch either of those numbers-not many cars (stock) can.

I assume you mean my Max.?? I stripped off a couple of the parts and sold and the org.

Then I sold the Max outright, locally (the best way really)-$16K.

Yep. They are going for $500 under invoice (if your lucky); mine will have every option available (which isn't many-it's all standard) and cost $31,400.

But, if you get a new Max w/ every option you can pay that. And, granted, I'm giving up a bit of sleek styling but gaining...

jet black w/ smoked aluminum (lightweight) 17" rims, 2.5 liter, 15psi turbo-charged engine w/ automatic or manual water injected inter-cooler, and driver-selected differential (I select power distribution to front/rear wheels) on an All-Wheel Drive platform, and upgrade potential out the wazzu-Yummyyyyyy!

Happy modding guys and thanks for the luv.

Hmmm... let's see here. I've been a die-hard motorhead for about 14years (first dirtbike @ 14)

There's no need for me to do research on this. I believe I'm kinda well-rounded already. Anywayz, to satisfy my need to diss your theory:

MOTOR TREND - JUNE 2003, VOL. 55, NO. 6, PAGE# 49

____STi____________
$32,000-$32,500
300HP
0-60 4.87sec
1/4 13.23 @ 104.6
Braking 111ft
600-ft slalom 69.1

____EVO____________
$28,987-$30,217
271HP
0-60 4.59sec
1/4 13.08 @ 105.1
Braking 106ft
600-ft slalom 71.4

Ok, it looks to me that the EVO outperforms the STi in every category, AND it's also a beter bargain, AND it doesn't look like grandma's grocery getter Impreza with a big rice-wing.

If you have this issue of Motor Trend, you'll also notice that the STi is included in a big SUPERCAR show-off. It ends up scoring fairly well, if you consider some of those cars are in the 6-digit range. Actually, the most expensive one costs 1000 times more than the EVO, yet it doesn't seem to perform 1000 times better in any field.

Then, as a die-hard motor-head, you should think how many times do these magazines quote incorrect numbers. And many times, on a new car, that hasn't been realeased yet, they often use the previous models stats-which is what those nubmers sound like (I could be wrong, but I bet they didn't have a 2K3 STI to test and used the 2002 stats). And we all know the 2002 model had a smaller engine and less HP.

Also as a gear-head, you should deduce that there is no way the STI, w/ 30 more horses than the EVO at 100lbs lighter than the EVO, could be slower. It just doesn't add up.

But, if all the above isn't true, and by some act of god the STI is slower, the STI does have a bigger engine and lower stock boost than the EVO, making the STI infinitly easier to upgrade. And we all know that is 'key'. So, the STI is the obvious choice, money aside (and who cares about a couple thousand bucks?).

But, then why argue? The real test is on the road/track, head-to-head. I'll definetly find out soon enough, and then I'll know for sure... I'll report back.

Yeah... but I never get to win at arguements...

They always end like this:

1. I LOSE

2. The other person says "let's not argue" and then I end up buying them drinks
