I dropped off my boy at his grandma's house this morning and I noticed while going behind the car that white smoke was coming out the muffler and a burning, burnt kinda odor from my Max. What could it be? I've noticed that from time to time I get this odor from going up the same big hill. Should I make an appointment to have the dealer look at it? I've also noticed pinging from time to time and I always use premium (91) Chevron gas.

 

check the condition of the oil on the dipstick. make sure your there are no white residue on it, only oil. Another test is to run your engine and hold a plain sheet of paper close to exhaust. The paper should remain the same color. Let us know.

 

I saw a 5th gen max going past and it also had white smoke comin out of the exhaust. I thought the freakin thing was on fire and my Dad was like "woh". That's how bad it was smokin.

 

Sounds like a blown headgasket or cracked head or block. That's a major repair. Is it still under warranty?

 

It's only got 16K....damn...I didn't think it was that bad. I'm making an appointment tomorrow.
