engine light - help

My 2000 maxima's engine light goes on and off. I have had it tested, and the comp readout said catalyst problem - band 1. One mechanic told me it was the o2 sensors, another told me it was catalytic converter. Anyone had this problem and know the fix & $$. Must get fixed to pass marta.. thanks..

It's definitly a bad 02. I think. It can't be the cat because there's no 02 after it.

I had the same problem and took it to Nissan dealer. They reprogrammed the ECU and everything went away. What happened is that some 2k cars have a bad ECU program that mistakenly reads if O2 sensor has gone bad, but it hasn't. So, take your car to the dealer.

Yeah can be a bad ECU program. Try that first.

Is there a TSB for this ECU update?

Anyone have more information about this?
