Bose/Clarion head unit common problems

My 2K3 GLE Bose/Clarion head unit seems to have a problem. The left channel (front and rear) very often sounds muddled and garbled. This only occurs when using the CD player, the tuner plays fine. All six CD locations will eventually do this, and original CD's as well as home-burned CD will do it. A good smack on the side of the center console will sometimes correct it and bring the sound back to normal, but I don't like smacking my car. Forcing the CD changer to switch CD locations will usually correct it for a short while also. I hate that I already have to take my car in to have something fixed. Why can't Clarion build a semi-reliable head unit?

Anyone else have this problem? Are there any common problems surrounding this Bose/Clarion setup?

Thanks for the info. My car's mfg data is 5/2002 I think. It's definitely an early 2003 model, so I'm sure the hu falls into the date range you mention. Thanks!

I have a new Headunit at the dealer waiting on me. Must be fairly common because I just said something about it cutting out and they said "We'll get a new one ordered." They didn't even try the typical CAN'T DUPLICATE response.

My FORMER dealer (tischer nissan) claimed they couldn't duplicate it (after a long 2 mile test drive). My NEW dealer (Len Stoler) simply ordered the part without giving me a fit, and now it works. My CD player would just completely cut out going around right hand turns.
