I am going to lease the max...
what should I watch out for... what things might a dealer try to charge me that I should say NO.
I plan on (85% sure) that I will buy it at the end of the lease... do I negotiate the total car cost? new to all this... thanks for any tips

You need to go to http://www.edmunds.com and look at all they tell you about leasing. If not, you can really get screwed if you dont know what youre doing. Im leasing mine. 2K SE, Comfort & Convenience, Bose, Leather, Auto. I only pay $375/mo

lease story

i leased my trooper for three years. the buy back at the end was supposed to be for $19,800 and it obviously wasn't going to be worth that much. so i kept the miles low (which sucked because it was like it wasn't my car) so that i could walk away without mileage penalty if they would not negotiate. frustrating for 3 years - i'd never do it again.
but...
when i called to see about negotiating the price they were like 'ok what do you want to pay?' and i told them it was worth about 16,500 (hoping to maybe settle on 17,000.)
the girl on the other end then said she'd see what they were auctioning for and came back and offered me it for $15,400! cha-ching, SOLD! (am i a great deal maker er wha?)

anyway the moral of the story is that you can get alot off of the residual value, so it may be cheaper in the long run to lease if you don't mind knowing that it aint your car. cause it seems like they (GE Cap leasing in my case) really don't want the car and will dump it for cheap rather than dealing with administration of a lease return and resale.

it all depends on how well the max holds its value...

Hmm... not sure how you did it.
$23,700 financed for 60 months even at 0% APR still comes to $395/mo.

Hmm, well the figures dont add up, but anyway you got a good payment. I couldnt get financing for less than 7%APR which comes out to a payment in the high four hundreds. Anyway, I get a new car every 2 years anyway so leasing works out best for me. This one will be up just in time for the 2003 Max

Im only doing things to mine that I can undo, and then when I get my new one, I can just sell my other stuff. Or leave it. I sometimes sell my leased cars outright.
